You know how the collective attention span of Americans was too short for coronavirus? How it's so many 24-hour news cycles ago that people just refuse to acknowledge that it's still here? Well, the same goes for the reopen movement. Astroturfed as it may be, it's not like the support for lockdown didn't also have external influence (in the form of a deadly virus that's still there), but it wasn't enough; people got bored and forgot. As this thing wears us on for two, three more weeks, the re-open crowd is going to tire and completely forget what they're doing and get bored of it. Everyone will go back to doing nothing again.

like we're disintegrating over a very very controllable virus, identical to but less severe than the viruses we get every several years like clockwork, which every other country has easily reduced to nearly zero with an 8-week lockdown, UBI, track and trace

The protests got big money behind it. They'll just roll out pundits and activists to speak and keep the fire going even when the ones who just joined up go home and hole up for the inevitable second wave.

Mainstream media will accept it. Right-wing media is going to have to keep banging the drum about how everyone except Republicans are responsible for the virus getting so bad here. They'll throw poo poo in the air and let the mob grab and whatever suits them the most. Republicans won't deny a second wave is going to happen. They'll frame it that it wasn't SUPPOSED to happen but SOMEONE purposely made it worse (China, immigrants, Democrat politicians).

Right, it doesn't matter if he ever makes any sense or does anything decorous, that's not how his followers want him. Chuds are people who understand pro wrestling is fake but like it anyway. Donald Trump is a WWE hall of famer who, in both their eyes and in his own, is perfectly playing a dumb odious heel character designed to make the liberal media weep. It's pure entertainment. To white supremacists he's on "their team" and doing well so they love him. To poor whites, he's at least providing free entertainment from a platform that never provided them much of anything else. They love him. They want him this way. As sloppy and offensive as possible, playing up his character. The people who look down on wrestling fans are the same ones who look at political theater and think that dems vs repubs is real; those people deserve the chuds.

Japan and Taiwan were already anti-China

Sweden is obviously a country run by death worshipers so yeah I can see them trying to start WW3

If anything the pandemic might be a wildcard in Vietnam. Yeah, China is a bully right next door. But they're at least rational and have a similar system of government that can withstand a crisis. The US can't even help itself, how is it going to help you in a regional conflict or climate catastrophe.

Chinese historiography calls Vietnam one of the 5 "golden roses" of socialism, along with cuba, laos, and cambodia. It won't be a wildcard because if the newly reconstituted 8 nation alliance knocks china off they are coming for the DRV next

As a Filipino, I wouldn't put the Philippines on the "possible" column. Duterte is leaning hard on establishing amiable relations with the PRC, and while this is fueling a lot of vocal opposition towards him, he controls Congress and the courts.

The most I would expect is that some nativist right-wing demagogue wins in 2022 on a wave of anti-Duterte-mixed-Sinophobia to counter Duterte's tough-on-drugs right-wing demagoguery.
