It had some entertaining moments, but iracing makes garbage rear end TV and I will throw all of this poo poo in the trash the moment a real Indycar fires up, and never think about it again.

a big issue broadcast wise is just the inability for the camera to actually show the race, it can only follow individual cars, made the race basically impossible to follow.

Also commentary is always like 2 seconds behind what they're seeing so you'll see someone intentionally wreck a competitor, and then a huge pause, and then "WHOA"
|
# ? May 3, 2020 06:30 |

That isn't an iracing issue though, take a look at the V8 Supercars series for how much better it could be. Whoever Indycar are using to run the broadcasts don't have the required level of polish to pull it off.

Death threats and N-bombs have permeated online gaming since it's inception. I'm actually surprised we haven't heard threats of rape from one driver to the next, tbh. People that play a LOT of competitive video games are generally garbage human beings. Even having iracing put on an Indycar race at Indianapolis on mainstream television and only letting real drivers enter the game couldn't prevent things from devolving into typical online fuckery. Ramming people on purpose, taking risks they could never get away with in real life, and straight up ruining the race because they don't like how things are going was a foregone conclusion. Does anyone think we're still gonna be racing in Texas a month from now? I can't see it happening.

To be honest, hundreds of people dying from a virus they got at a race would be an improvement on things lately

Indiana's current reopening timeline (subject to change) should allow some fans into IMS starting July 4th: quote:Our goal is to have all areas of the state reach Stage 5 beginning July 4th. Even in Stage 5 we will continue to do social distancing, but conventions, sports events, fairs, festivals, state fair and like events may resume and remote work will be optional. Retail stores, malls, restaurants, bars, nightclubs, gyms and personal services may operate at full capacity. Restrictions will be lifted at amusement parks, water parks and like facilities. At this time, we will decide how to approach the next school year. So, Hoosiers, this is our 5-Stage plan to get Indiana back on track. It’s a methodical, step-by-step plan for steady progress which we’ll carefully monitor. I think every plan of re-opening -- and especially re-opening with fans -- for every single racing or sport series should be taken with a mountain of salt, in the form of "they have contractual reasons to try and make sure things happen." I'm sure privately all of these groups know it's an uphill battle, but when it's their job to get races going again?

Everyone is going to say things are going ahead until they can't, because if not they're on the hook for making the call to cancel.

Marion County, IN (where Indianapolis is) has extended their "Stay-At-Home" order until May 15th. A great deal of local businesses are not planning on reopening even at reduced capacity until June. As far as I'm aware, the restrictions on gatherings will expire on July 4th, just before the Indy GP/NASCAR double header. This is the current plan, and I sincerely loving doubt it will stand.
