Tropical Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico waters are both above normal. Atmospheric patterns are optimal for hurricane activity in the Atlantic basin (neutral tending toward la nina). The statistical guidance is about as good as it gets for a busy season. Now we just need to see how that plays out when the hurricanes start forming.

Yeah, Nate Silver is a dipshit but I'm confused about why 20% of people being immune (assuming long term immunity is real) wouldn't help reduce transmission, even if it didn't reduce it below one.

shovelbum posted:I thought partial herd immunity was a real thing tho, like having 20% immune provides a significant boost to the efficacy of measures to suppress r0? herd immunity is determined by the percentage of people it takes to keep the R < 1 so that a disease doesn't spread throughout the population. it's a specific definition. increasing the number of people immune doesn't change the herd immunity threshold and calling it "partial herd immunity" doesn't mean anything.

But word seems to travel round the berbnet after a while, and we've started seeing birds you wouldn't normally see in a dense urban area coming to feed. I think it's because there's a small wild wetland reserve about 0.5km away.

We haven't heard from A Horny Swearingen for a while... Bird chat, the rufous hummingbirds all had their babies and drink at least a liter and a half of nectar a day. The juncos are all nesting in the long grass on the side of the road and my neighborhood raven recently started saying hello back to me. Birds are great. I really should just have a bird crazies tag, I fkn love the ornery little dinosaurs.

We're too dumb to get under 1, but we can manage getting under 1.25.

This is a win/win for incompetent leadership. Lots of people died because of their incompetence & lack of action? Clearly we're in a crisis, you've gotta rally around the flag and suppress bad news, where's your sense of patriotism? Not many people died because of their incompetence & lack of action? See, people are just overreacting, it's just the flu bro. Justice would be ugly public trials, loud politicians getting thrown in prison, it's all very messy. What if we just paper mâché over the gaping holes and move on? So much easier.

I've kept every color from black to blue to red and if I needed a hand of course I had my husband but that was super rare and only if I was about to make a mess because I was being dumb. The main reason you would go somewhere for 500$ a pop is if you were getting it done for the first time or changing colors and went to a super high end place and got a cut and blow dry. Upkeep on hair should only be like 200$ max if you're going in for a touch up and trim with getting it blow dried and styled.
