At least in the PS3/360 to PS4/XB1 transition the games actually had somewhere to go resolution-wise (720p to 1080p).

You'll really be able to see the ball sweat in the locker room trading card game.

A lot of crap there. I guess that one isometric shooter that looked like a sci-fi Diablo seems pretty good.

I think one thing to note is most of that stuff was from small/indie studios who've never been known for pushing hardware to it's limit.

Jesus gently caress. Every game they showed besides Yakuza 7 looked so boring.

The first game they showed is a sequel of some sort to Bright Memory, which was a fun as heck bulletstorm with melee indie game on steam for ten bucks (and a bout 2 hours of gameplay). If they manage to make a full game out of it then that will be a solid title. The space sim looked interesting. The main issue I had was that there was almost no actual gameplay footage - I think I saw real gameplay for Medium (Layers of Fear was cool, observer was ok, Blair Witch was the most rehashed horror nonsense of all time), the Space Sim game which was so memorable I can't remember the name and Bright Memory: Infinite. Everything else was definitely all cinematics.

Oh yeah, Avalanche is doing Left4Dinosaurs and that might be cool.

Third-party studios like Ubisoft, Sega, and Bandai Namco Entertainment are backing Microsoft’s Smart Delivery upgrades, but there’s one big exception: EA.

While EA unveiled Madden NFL 21 for the Xbox Series X today, the company is not pledging its commitment to supporting Smart Delivery.

Instead, EA is offering its own free upgrade offer, but only if players purchase Madden NFL 21 on Xbox One by December 31st and upgrade to Xbox Series X by March 31st, 2021.

I don't expect this will be the last we see of it. The PS3->PS4 transition had plenty of games doing this because once digital distribution became a thing, nothing about this process is a technical issue, it's 100% weird licensing bullshit because what if someone got 2 games while only paying for 1, the horror. Even the 360 had two games that did this; both Call of Duty Advanced Warfare and Destiny 1, if you bought them digitally on 360 it rendered the Xbox One version free on the XB1 store for your account. Same with any DLC for those games.

In this particular case it might not even be EA's fault, it could be some policy with the NFL which isn't an organization well-known for keeping up with the times and making good decisions about things, especially if they can be even theoretically perceived as making them less money.

We can see if it's the same deal with Fifa 21 I guess. That'll probably be shown alongside PS5 stuff eventually, as I think they're still doing the packins.

I think the fact that the NFL, NHL, and FIFA have their big tentpole sim game licenses with EA and the NBA doesn’t is like a little microcosm that speaks volumes to the relative shittiness of said professional sports leagues.

Phew, this was real rough.

So they open it with what I'm gonna guess Microsoft thought was the most bombastic and effects-laden footage they had, which was Bright Memory Infinite. That game looks okay (gave me Crysis and Killzone vibes) but also... maybe a bit too busy visually? Anyway, it's essentially an Xbox version of something that was previously available on PC.

And then we go immediately into extremely gross body horror, which seems totally out of place but again I guess someone at Microsoft thought it was a good fit because they really needed to show something that was graphically impressive, which those Giger-esque models certainly were (though most of it was still motion stuff, so whatever). Completely loving mad that they put it in there.

So after that there's some driving, spaceships, football, a lady giving birth to a demon, generic-rear end anime action... nothing very impressive or notable, but at least it's new games being announced.

And then finally, the thing they've been stringing people along for: The promised AC: Valhalla "gameplay" is just footage that might as well all be cutscene stuff. What the gently caress.

Even the stuff that should have been right up my alley like the Vampire RPG footage, just turned me off. Might be the grimness of our present, but I really didn't need to see that opening.

this too, but I figure if it end being more a hack and slash-y game, I will still be fun that way.

but I would like one more on the tradition of storylines, characters, stories...

BM:Infinite is a sequel/full game, not a hour indie. It will also be coming to PC. If you haven't played the original, it always reminded me of Bulletstorm with Melee. It is a very fast paced/intense shooter and it does kind of borrow from everything.

There was some actual gameplay footage buried in that first reveal, but it was like 2 seconds at a time and showed us absolutely nothing about the supposed new ideas/innovations they hyped. Very dissapointing; OTOH, we are getting some news during the outbreak. You can tell that all of that stuff (the interviews especially) weren't the same quality we're used to, probably because most of these people haven't been in the same room as their PR department in two months. Hopefully the first party showcase will be better.

The funny thing about BM: Infinite (besides BM :v: ) is that "borrow from everything" earlier in its development actually meant "literally stealing assets from AAA games."

All these games I'm not buying on Xbox but I like most of what was shown. I share the same fear about bloodlines 2. The last game by that dev was blacklight retribution which was decent.

I mean I think it's dumb that these general console pressers are always essentially R-rated but that seems like an especially bad move now when people inevitably have their kids around (mine was in the room and had to look away and I muted parts of it to ease the "tension"). loving hell, it's a trailer of a dev build of a game, it would be trivial to cut a safe-ish trailer. Let people watch the "red band" trailer by specifically seeking it out.
