I imagine its more that he sees women first and foremost as sexual objects so the fact that Riho comes off young to him grosses him out and he puts that on her and AEW for perceived "jailbait honeypot" stuff or something instead of recognizing that its because he's a gross misogynist who is sexualizing her.

I mean I don't care if anyone thinks about Riho in that way: she's 22 and isn't a child so if someone feels like that then, well, that's sometimes what happens. The issue is the automatic assumption is that her presentation - which has been basically the same since she was a child (here is a 2009 match where she won her first ever singles title from when she was 12 as an example) - is something that she's forced to do in an attempt to attract paedophiles that I don't like and the people that think that way say a lot more about themselves than they do her, AEW, Stardom, Gatoh Move or whoever. Its also a rather disgusting allegation to basically everyone involved in her career that they were trying to sexualise someone who was young and removes her agency from her character - I'm pretty sure that if she wasn't comfortable with her gear or whatever she'd have said something in the seven years that she was ace of a promotion owned by someone who thinks the world of her, or changed things up when she went freelance and started working for two totally different promotions because she isn't; that's just who she is. Plus also the assumption that women are only in wrestling to satisfy horny men which is also nasty: nothing wrong with finding a wrestler of either gender attractive or to watch because of that but like I watch a lot of Joshi and I don't think like that about anyone.

riho was in a japanese playboy online thing and one of the pics is her wrestling gear. it's not a sexualized pic but the rest are. i don't know. there's a lot of stuff that joshi do that many of them probably wouldn't want to if they didn't feel like it was so normalized and expected. that said i do not know who feels what way and there's no way to tell. and none of that stuff has ever really been even an implicit part of her u.s. appearances, and it would be silly to believe otherwise. well, i don't really have an argument to put forth so much as things that came to mind. i respect all opinions about this sort of thing i've seen on here from my fellow SA users for the most part. if there are any that i don't respect i will point them out later, or you can ask me either here or via PM if i respect an opinion that you need to lay out for me so that i can understand it. i don't respect sundowndick

That stuff depends on the person and the promotion. Some promotions absolutely encourage people to do things like that (the Stardom photobooks were the historic example: not compulsory but because they get a large merch cut and smaller per-show pay there are financial incentives to do it although they've stopped since the Bushiroad takeover); others absolutely don't and would block their wrestlers doing something like that and for freelancers its of course their choice since they aren't contractually bound to anyone and there are wrestlers who came to wrestling from the modelling side so are perfectly happy to carry on doing that stuff. Gatoh Move, like every promotion male or female in Japan, do photoshoot type stuff to get photos for 8x10s but they are always in gear and aren't sexual so them forcing her to do something like like would be out of character especially with the relationship Emi reportedly has with a lot of her trainees. If it was before last June then she'd have been under contract to them but it could be a thing where they went to her directly I dunno: we aren't privy to the behind the scenes stuff not really should we be. After that then she's freelance so no one could really tell her what to do. We could have a discussion about people doing things like that to get attention or money without being entirely comfortable with it but I don't like assuming that's what it is by default: some people like doing things like that. Not having seen the thing in question I can't really comment on it further!
