I'm right with you, 90s Lego was dope. A lot of the themes get a lot of flak, and to be fair some of it is justified. Especially towards the end of the decade Lego was getting quite juniorised with big specialised pieces. Still, I think even the worst themes usually had a pretty good concept behind them even if the execution wasn't quite there.

Exploriens were cool, but like any non-Classic Space theme all the really loud CS nerds hate it. Here's an Exploriens MOC I did last year - a mobile telescope. You'll have to forgive the half-clear dome but I only have two of those panels in blue.

This is rad as gently caress and I would absolutely love to have this as a set! Explorians are one of my favorite space themes, honestly the quintessential one I had growing up. I think it was a later space theme, but those heat sensitive bricks on the base MOC posted earlier also gave me instant nostalgia vibes, that was the absolute coolest piece.

Currently building The Fairground Mixer (10244), and I really have to say, this is the best set I've built since Ninjago City. The way everything unfolds and then spins or works is pretty slick!

A mixed comment, but I can work with it!

I admit my buildings would probably be a bit more dynamic if I planned ahead, I definitely built as I went along.

What I'd really love are some fresh pieces, too. I've been working with the same set since I was twelve, I feel like I've exhausted the style potential. Do they still sell mixed parts buckets or bulk assorted packs or anything? And is it ridiculously expensive, if so?

As much as I love them it will never not annoy the hell out of me that the UCS starfighter sets don't scale to each other at at all. Now we have all of them. They look great. and none of them look right displayed next to each other. First world problems folks.

Finished about 60% of the A-Wing. As with most sets it's much bigger than I imagined from the pics. it's shaping up to be a beefier set than the Y Wing. It's a drat pretty looking set, although the overall fun of building it and attention to detail is a little drab coming off of my last big set being the Batmobile which was just such a joy to build. Still just happy I finally have a big rear end A wing. Such a good ship.

Just finished mine. The proportions are a little chonkily incorrect but I still love it because they did a spectacular job with the weird diagonal shapes and very few gaps and also the A Wing is just my fave ship. When you finish, let me know if your guns have a slight upward tilt? I wonder if I put something in wrong or it was a compromise in the dumb flipping around play feature.

There is online Pick a brick but it seems to have a very long lead time to fill the orders.

There are still buckets of assorted pieces officially for sale with a lot of variety in both piece type and color. Getting one of those when getting back into Lego was hugely revelatory for me, seeing how many new colors and small detailing pieces they've come up with since I was younger and they were still a mostly limited set of primary colors. It'll give you a good idea of the kinds of pieces to order/incorporate into your MOCs and hopefully provide some inspiration.

As well, when I have two small plates of the same size stuck together I find my teeth are sometimes the only thing that can separate them.

Mine sit straight. I went to look and noticed a tiny bit of upward tilt but I nudged it down and and they sat down flat.

Did you notice the instructions were missing a step? on the right side of the nose there's a few parts that magically appear and it isn't clear what they are. I had to disassemble the left side for reference. Also, the book says that they are now including two copies of all UCS canopy stickers in case you screw them up, starting with the A Wing. And then they only included 1 set of stickers lol.

Overall the set is pretty great. At least as a display piece. it's a really nice looking A Wing. Really bare bones though. Not one of the funner sets to build. Idg why they couldn't at least make the canopy open or think of some neat function to include, or make some landing gear for it. The last few UCS sets make me really appreciate just how goddamn good the Snowspeeder is. That set really went the extra mile.

The A Wing also feels weirdly light for how big it is. My other UCS sets just feel beefier when I pick them up. I'd still give it an 8/10 with and extra point thrown in just for being an A Wing.

Ugh, I'm gonna look and see if I did something wrong with that internal mechanism, I actually watched Jang's regular build and looked that that assembly on the inside and from what I recall mine SHOULD be right.... maybe I'm just being picky.

I did not notice. Do you remember about what number it is? I do remember having to go back and add a piece but it didn't click to me that it was because a step was left out, and my leftover parts are just the usual greebly bits and a some 3L pieces.

Yeah you know, the Red 5 actually did have 2 sets of stickers but they were of a considerably worse design.

I have 3 constructed modulars - the Town Hall, Palace Cinema and the Grand Emporium. I don’t have the boxes. I might have some of the instructions. They’re probably 97% complete (some minifigs/vehicles might be absent).

What’s the best way to offload these relatively quickly? Ebay and hope someone will come pick ‘em up or a Facebook listing? Bricklink?

Lego Masters and quarantine have inspired me to buy some Lego sets for the first time in.. 20 years? I've just built most of the permutations of three of the 3-in-1s (dragon, shark, and robot) which were a lot of fun and good value.

There are so many new pieces and colors! Lego is cool. I wish there were some generic space/castle lines out there right now, but I don't see any.

There are not, which I think is a bit of shame. There doesn't seem to be enough room in the market for both Space and Star Wars at the same time, and I think to a lesser extent Castle and Harry Potter. That said, it's not difficult to find second-hand Space and Castle sets, and the more recent themes of them (Galaxy Squad, Kingdoms etc) aren't too expensive.

If you don't care about the $$$ then just throw them on CL.

If you do care abou the $$ then disassemble and do piece counts. Order any missing pieces from BL. Then sell them 100% complete on Ebay. All three will sell. Last I checked, the values are used, 100% w/ instructions around: 350, 200 and 250. Incomplete 1/2 to 2/3 those prices depending on the buyer. I wouldn't pay more than 1/2 for something that I knew I was going to have to spend time and money completing.

A lot of what's posted here is stuff that looks impossible for me to build and makes me go Wow.
I'm not a good builder, I work with mostly 90% my own childhood stuff and like 10% stuff that I bought extra to fill out my childhood stuff.
The stuff you're posting looks like stuff I can either approach or mirror(so no wow), but it looks like you're building as you're going along just having fun. (And that's apparently exactly what you're doing)
It looks like stuff that I want to build, stuff I can build and after it's built call my son over and play with him with the building. And I love it for it. :)

As for your question, I filled my stuff out by buying some wanted parts off of bricklink, I bought a bag of roof at a garage sale and visited pick a brick a few times. Probably about €90 extra spend in about 2 years and it's given me loads of extra possibilities.

Though I'm currently eyeing ways to acquire more pieces that are just bricks. No specialty pieces, just a big pile of whatever color rectangular building materials...and maybe some plates.

I am also itching to do some Castle type mocs, I actually got some of the 2007 fantasy dwarf stuff from Ebay earlier this year. That coupled with playing Total Warhammer during lockdown has really fired up my imagination.

Now, looking at the finished design, im kinda surprised with some of the ingenious solutions i came up with.

So my advice is to just jump into it, once you start building knowledge on various good piece synergies and techniques seeing the solutions to the various challenges you come across will go much faster.

Haha no worries you didn't have to clarify, I sort of got what you meant. And actually we have a similar motivation, my 3-yo daughter loves anything that spins, opens/closes, levers and claws and cranes and all that so I like to build around that. It makes for a kind of dollhouse-with-interactive-features look. I've tried and impossible build around her before and I need a very very high shelf for that...

The Fairground Collection also seems odd branding, seeing as the most recent set (Roller Coaster) made no reference to being part of a group.
