I've been enjoying Kenji's POV cooking videos. Just watching him make stuff at home for his family while rambling about technique and the tools he uses (and occasionally talking poo poo about Gordon Ramsay) has been really entertaining. Shout out to the video where he just wildly fucks up making a pizza and still plays it cool.

I follow Meme Appetit and have laughed at some of their posts but I did not care for this at all. Some of the TK crew seem legit offended by some of these. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HeW8ANRgBoM

The very first meme, the creators are explaining to them what the meme is while the staff are nodding and smiling and I just want to die, this is torture.

Clearly the BA production team is trying out some new ideas for content during the quarantine. I'm not gonna begrudge them trying, but man I sure hope they come up with some better stuff.

Starting to catch up with the BA vids that have been coming out during lockdown, and sweet baby jegus, the way Sohla idly plays with that paring knife as she thinks out loud gives me anxiety. Like, on the one hand, she's a trained professional and knows how to handle a knife safely. On the other hand, that is how you lose fingers or cut your palm open.

Just watched the meme video and holy poo poo you guys are right that was bad. Like, I actually interacted with the like/dislike system and I pretty much never do that. Naturally the comments are loving terrible but it's youtube so....

To be honest I had worse things to say about the meme video but stopped myself because I figured there was a nonzero possibility that those two guys were goons and posting in this thread.

I didn't really hate it like some of yinz seemed to, but I did skip through it pretty quickly. Understand the need for newish kinda material in stay at home times, but swing and a on that one, IMO.

I wasn't a fan of that or the scavenger hunt. I'm glad they're trying new things but, like, stick to food stuff please.

The scavenger hunt was pretty fun I thought. At least the cast was having fun with it. The meme video was just a cringefest.

The scavenger hunt was an excuse for Sohla to give her dogs more airtime, and therefore totally worth it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n01H5fjeaL8 Sent this to my mom and sister; sister is constantly going through my mom's fridge to throw out expired condiments. I think the record was three bottles of ranch.

Speaking of old stuff I have been going through my spice cabinet and clearing out super-old stuff. I have some cloves that expired 20 years ago.

Is Bake Off: Professionals as good as normal Bake Off? https://twitter.com/BritishBakeOff/status/1260589491695292416
|
# ? May 13, 2020 18:41 |
Good question. I would like to know as well. My gut instinct is no both because spinoffs are never as good and the professionals might be more competitive and less supportive of eachother. Also they'll be better at the practical skills challenge and that's the best part of the regular show.

Yeah agreed. I'm not clear if the format is like an All Stars GBBO or if they're the judges for a bunch of home cooks. I imagine it's the former, which isn't super interesting even though Liam rules.

# ? May 13, 2020 18:55 |
The spinoff I'd like to see is GBBO but with a wider scope than baking.

Nadiya's Time to Eat, a BBC television show also on Netflix, is tremendously wholesome. She's adorable. I don't really give a poo poo about any of the food but she also does some non-recipe stuff like visit a mushroom farm or the Marmite factory and those segments are great too.
