Artist debate: referencing and tracing are not the same thing at all. Referencing and copying are not the same thing either. If I go the museum and photograph a hyena, then make a drawing while looking at that photo, I'm referencing. If I go to the museum, photograph a hyena, and then trace that hyena and put some sunglasses on him, I'm a oval office. It's usually possible to spot the difference without being a savant who can do a personal reverse google image search, since a tracing has the same sort of hollow perfection that a portrait copied from a photo does.
