A lot of olds just think the respect is due to age. You get old, you're wise and respected and don't need to learn new things or back up any of your beliefs with fact. In fairness, I think that was pretty much how it was in the past. Whether it was your 40 year career where you were an expert on the same thing you'd been doing the same way for decades, or at home where you would get a call once a week from a youngster asking how long to boil an egg.


Now by the time you retired you were useless the last 5 years because you refused to learn excel, and your grand kids can just ask siri how long to boil an egg. What else to do besides watch fox news all day?

A bunch of goons have reported family members forced to quit Fox, talk radio and the right wing memeosphere becoming a whole lot more reasonable within months. Basically people aren’t as bad and dumb when forced to think for themselves instead of being told what to think.
