I'm going to be 28 next week and Tony Hawk being so wholesome is making me consider getting back into skateboarding when I never even reached the ollie stage as a kid.

I had the opposite of this when I lived in CT, there was this band of like 10-13yo kids who would ride by me in their sweet tricked out Walmart BMX bikes in the evening when I was taking my motorcycle gear off, and they'd always ask "Can it do a wheelie?" I'd always tell them "I don't wheelie very often." Then a couple times I saw them out while I was puttering around on the street when I was riding, and they always stopped and yelled "Do a wheelie!" Every time I couldn't resist the urge, and I'd redline the engine and dump the clutch, and pop up a little (2-2:30 o'clock) wheelie on my poor FZ6. Every time I'd look back in my mirror after I set the bike down and see them whooping and fist pumping, never failed to make my day. Every time after the first they'd pop a wheelie when they went by while Inwas sitting out drinking on the back porch. I wish I had my R1 or FE250 during this time so I have properly 12 o'clocked it for these young men, who frequently rode much sicker wheelies on their Huffies than I could manage on my street bike. I often imagine they're out there today, riding away from the cops on dirt bikes of questionable legality, holding the 12 O'clock position around corners, and filling up at gas stations with giant signs saying "FILLING NON STREET-LEGAL VEHICLES AT THIS STATION IS ILLEGAL AND PROHIBITED"

The only time I ever got on a skateboard I ended up skidding about two or three feet down the road on the side of my face. Ended up looking like the spider man baddie for a month or so.

One of my neighbors is a former pro skater (you probably haven't heard of him. Short career and pretty low on the billing list when he toured for exhibitions). He's about 50 now and looks like the average dad, little thick around the middle and thinning, graying hair. Every few months he'll drive his Lexus to a skate park and go shred in front of a bunch of very surprised teens. Absolutely not who you would expect to drop into a halfpipe
