We Are All Gonna Die: GOOD NORMAL THINKING PUBLIC!

Anyways at work we used to say "stay safe" sometimes anyway and now we use it more and sincerely mean it. The rail control center has to read a few paragraphs about safe train operation etc every hour over the radio and there's one dude who adds stuff like "stay safe out there, remember that your health matters more than anything else" and it's kinda sweet. Normally I'd be like yeah gently caress you buddy easy for you to say sitting in the office while we're out here with the public but uhh there's been a lot of outbreaks in the control towers and they don't really have an option to space themselves out in most cases.

The response from the county mayor? Keep it running, and its ok to eat the mushrooms still as long as you wash your hands after handling them.

Let that sink in there. We're all gonna die.

For the more hardcore ones? Not going to happen.

It would literally be easier to assemble some sort of Einsatzgruppen to hunt them down and kill them. Those are the kinds of people who will either pretend to follow the rules (but not) or kick and scream and fight to their dying breath to hinder/subvert any effort to stop the spread. There is literally no reasoning with the more stupid of their ilk, and it's been proven that the more hardcore believers cannot be reasoned with, even if they are infected or someone they love dies from it. It will always be something else.

They're exactly like rabid dogs. They're erratic, unpredictable, and dangerous. Get too close and they will infect you given half a chance.

United is flying Houston—Sao Paulo, and supposedly American is going to resume DFW—Sao Paulo next month. I think Brazil has restrictions on inbound travel though, so they may be effectively repatriation and government travel flights for now.

Yup - the US isn't going to stop you from leaving, but Brazil won't let you in:

quote:

On April 28, Brazil extended the current ban on foreigners entering the country by air for an additional 30 days (through May 28). Those in the following categories are exempt: Brazilian citizens, born or naturalized; Permanent residents of Brazil; Foreign professionals employed by a non-governmental aid organization recognized by the Brazilian government; Foreign officials accredited by the Brazilian government; Spouse, domestic partner, son or daughter, father or mother, or caregiver of a Brazilian citizen; Any person whose entrance into Brazil is deemed by the government to be in the public interest; and travelers in transit (in one of the following categories: Cargo delivery, international passengers making a connection who do not leave the international transit area, passengers required to disembark for aircraft refueling or repairs, and flight crews).

Settle down, Beavis.

I can't remember if we're supposed to believe the CDC on the Somethingawful.com comedy forums, but this is good to see:

USA TODAY: Coronavirus 'does not spread easily' by touching surfaces or objects, CDC now says. But it still 'may be possible'..

Not that I'm going to start licking Amazon deliveries or the gas nozzle when I get gas once every 8 weeks, but I may back off wiping everything down as it comes into the house and go through less virucidal wipes.

The virus spreads extremely readily with an r0 of approximately five, but not via surfaces, but also masks are useless and you can stand six point one feet from someone and hold a conversation for an hour and you’re practicing social distancing so you’ll be fine.

I still wash my hands a lot but they're finally looking better after a couple weeks of constant washing and probably sanitizing too frequently at the beginning of March before school let out for the year. They were starting to get all cracked and nasty looking, but they were really clean.

The "FOR A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME WHILE NOT SPEAKING" part got lost in the fray of pushing the six-feet-apart thing. Yes, standing six feet apart for a couple minutes at most while not opening your mouth or breathing too hard through your nose will probably maybe stop you from catching coronavirus from a carrier. Should you do it? Still no. Don't stand anywhere near another human being for more than a few seconds the forseeable future.
