just walking along the beach and suddenly everyone started clapping and someone is setting off fireworks not sure if the multiple groups who are clearly from different households and not socially distancing joined in e: if you have a power cut you can call 105 to have someone do something about it, apparently

sounds like someone is still banging a pan or something e: is the BBC still running puff pieces about bojo clapping? wonder how they're handling him being forced into a U-turn on loving over NHS workers a day after standing up in parliament to declare that loving over NHS workers is good, actually XMNN fucked around with this message at 20:08 on May 21, 2020 |

Rousing round of clapping tonight, with new editions. A great bulwark against the crippling tory cuts I'm sure you'll agree.

The local church decided to start ringing the bells at 8pm. Along with the fireworks and the banging of pots it woke my infant daughter Especially frustrating because 70% of my neighbours are socialising and visiting each other as normal.

Always struck me as odd how a single cult game can have a brick and mortar store on most high streets.

When they where "Ramping up" they looked at towns that had both a 1st division (Now premiership) football team, AND a Marks and Spencers in the high street. They figured those places would have enough disposable income to support them.... Mind you, I based moving from Kent to Cardiff on the quality of the games stores here - so might be a little biased,

Holy loving shitballs you guys. I am trying not to ugly-cry here. I've had so many emails, PMs and facebook messages from UKMT goons over the past 24 hours that I've only just finished replying at nearly midnight. I've got more than enough orders to cover the vets bills and then some. I've received also some lovely words of support. It always fucks with my head that a place called SomethingAwful.com has some of the best, kindest people on the internet hanging out on it. I'm truly humbled and amazed by the support that you've all shown. Thank you, so much. From the bottom of my heart.

Vitamin P posted:Didn't Games Workshop have a pretty hefty monopoly until the Kickstarter boom? So who else here worked for GW? I put in about six months way back in 2001 at a north London location. Job was the perfect example of a curate’s egg; parts of it were excellent. I absolutely loved running games and engaging with the customers, but completely hated the corporate atmosphere, the low wages and my absolute oval office of a manager. Did have one cool aspect to it for me in particular- afraid it’s time for an anecdote. So it was a Tuesday, a very quiet day for us normally. I was catching up on some painting when I glanced up and noticed an Asian dude in a suit walking past. Except that from the angle I was at I could see he was wearing a shoulder holster. Then another guy walked past, the same. They were coming into the store. My finger was hovering over the panic button when my coworker came out from the back and told me to relax. Turns out the Sultan of Brunei’s kid had a liking for 40K, and every so often he’d come visit with six armed guards, two or three female minders and enormous cases containing literally thousands of minis. Kid had one of the old metal thunder hawks, the very early Forgeworld baneblades and shadowswords.. just so much stuff. Turns out that they had him visit our store because it was by the exit to the mall, making it good for a quick getaway if needed. And the kid was obviously pretty lonely- this was seen as important socialisation with kids his age. Now at the time I was very much not a leftist in any way, but even now what really sticks in my mind was how /nice/ he was. He was about 11, chubby as hell and really didn’t seem familiar with how to socialise- but he was incredibly polite and absolutely /loved/ playing with the other kids in the store. I’d normally grab every kid in the place and run massive battles using all our shop troops on one side against his legions on the other, with all the other kids sharing his command. Genuinely happy memories. Also he gave me £100 for my pre-release Inquisitor minis.. ahem. When I left the company he actually sent me a solid gold watch together with the royal seal, which I still have in my safe. It’s frankly hideous- heavy gold and mother of pearl on the face, and totally not my style. But it’s something that I hope to pass on to my potential kids in the future, just because of the story that goes with it.

Loonytoad Quack posted:Bit late, and really it's intended for as a primary school children teaching aid, but Kahoot! works amazingly for multiple choice pub quizzes. Host shares their screen, everyone else joins a link on their mobile and answers there. Really good and totally free up to 10 people or $4/month for up to 20. There's also a 50-people tier for $20/month which comes with a free trial if you're doing a one-off thing. Synchronicity or something, because my nephew piped up on our family Whatsapp to say his scouts troop were using Kahoot on their calls (apparently yes, scouts are doing Zoom meetings too) and so I've been putting something together on that all evening because I'm a mug who forgot that you never volunteer. Alas because this is going to include extended family and kids my Goatse speed round will have to be saved for another day.

No clapping at all from my block, but loads from the rest of the estate, which was a bit weird. Also when I went over the shop just afterwards a bus gave me a shake-and-a-haircut horn blast and the driver gave me a big thumbs up, which I returned with good grace and bemusement until I twigged I was (completely coincidentally, in that it was the first one out of the drawer this morning) wearing my Born in the NHS t-shirt, and now I feel like I've somehow stolen valour or something.

I have yet to hear anyone clapping, but that could be because I usually have headphones on and don't remember it's 8pm at Thursday until well after 8pm on Thursday. I choose to believe the village is just not respecting the sacrifices of our NHS workers.

The Klobb in Goldeneye is named after Ken Lobb, a producer at Nintendo who worked with Rare on Goldeneye. They chose that gun in particular to honour him because it's loud and flashy but doesn't do very much.
