I'm also not sure it's just going to be a universal "well we're all going to go outside now" response because a lot of people are keeping distance because they personally believe it's important for their own safety.

I think it's a big deal for people who still somehow have a modicum of faith/trust in the government

This has definitely gone far beyond the thread and similar places like the Drowned in Sound negaverse thread, and even Twitter. Dom Cum is getting heckled in the street by regular folks.

Like if this is some master plan to make people ignore the lockdown I don't think it's going to work very well because they've done a very good job of making a lot of people think the lockdown is important, in part by killing fifty thousand people.

There’s also the nhs imploding. They can’t ignore that. The problem wasn’t capacity, it was staff. They can’t just fill every bed and ignore it. We simply don’t have the doctors and nurses. The nhs would collapse and people would notice.

As others have noted I think this is still them trying to media manage their way out of an actual problem. And they can't. Like they can mitigate damage here and there but they can't actually maintain the situation they want to.

This is really upset a lot of people, boris's "it was for his kids!!!" just doesn't cut it when other people have been in the same situation and were isolating, rather than driving 260 miles to visit at risk, elderly relatives.

We'd also do London to Cornwall in one hit, although my parents were smart enough then to leave at like 2am to "beat the traffic", but actually so we'd be asleep most of the way.

Yeah I don't think this is just going to go away like they want to. If Boris doesn't sack him people will then turn their rage towards BoJo and he'll gently caress himself politically. It's pretty perplexing given the fact that Boris can weather most storms and come out unscathed. Cummings must have some serious dirt on him. Is there a Conservative Cabinet leaving in disgrace/sacked pool here because good lord they just can't help themselves. It seems like months ago Conor Burns resigned over fraud. I'm willing to put some money on Dominic Goings. Necrothatcher posted:I just saw this so you have to as well: Welp this is now in my brain forever

So Dom Cummings' excuse is that he needed to find appropriate childcare, right? Should the senior advisor to the PM be able to make some phonecalls and sort something out? I mean, the guy's best friend is literally the PM, surely they could find a babysitter or a way to get him to Durham without Dom going? Can't they bung him in an RAF chopper or something?

It's odd that the right wing papers were talking about Johnson's illness/recovery like he was the loving second coming just a few weeks ago. Now they're acting like they've been waiting ages for the chance to stick the knives in.

I meant more the bootlicker jabbering on about causing Boris's death being someone I might have dunked on but am not trying to be better. While I mostly agree with that, the problem is that I want everyone to be less of a oval office to strangers and "being willing to take responsibility for the death of" is an alarmingly low barrier online. I just got really hit hard by this young woman not even in her prime yet offing herself because of horrendous people and my only conclusion was "we need to better" & I guess that has to start with me. Perhaps a liberal outlook but
