During their initial heel run they didn’t have a team name, but they because Two Dudes With Attitudes during their babyface run in 95. It was the official team name, I remember hearing it a lot during their feud with Owen and Yokozuna.

The short-lived tag team of Kofi and Punk was nicknamed High and Dry by the internet, but never the company

El Gallinero Gros posted:It made me think of how Val Venis and Godfather were unofficially "Supply and Demand" on the web I remember that! Venis actually stated this on air. Was it in response to the internet? There were a bunch of teams that had these kind of informal names: Show-Gunns: Billy Gunn and Big Show formed an impromptu team (neither had anything better to do), and I got the feeling they were hoping it would be another Outlaws stroke of luck, but nope. Canadian Country: They actually held a open vote/poll on the WWF website to name the Owen/Jarrett team, and they picked this. They abandoned it like a week later, and just informally referred to them as Debra's Boys. The UpperCats: Cesaro and Tyson Kidd called themselves UpperCats after trying out a few names (Masters of the Universe, I think?) that didn't really work. Tyson even had gloves or some other gear with paw prints, but WWE chose to ignore this. Sid and The Kid: Sid and 1-2-3 Kid teamed up a lot, I guess, as members of the Million Dollar Corporation, and the announcers referred to them by this consistent name. It just wasn't official, even though I feel like I saw them a ton in late '95. Shoguns: Hakushi and fake ninja Kwang were a team for a week before the breakup and feud. It was official, just super super brief. Edit: Am I wrong in thinking Billy and Chuck had a name at some point? At least those were fun. Every tag team name created in the last 10 years is awful and used solely because it sounds marketable. Ascension, Absolution, Ilconics, Revival, Undisputed Era - none of these mean anything. Kofi/Evan Bourne were “Air Boom” for a minute before Bourne failed a wellness. R Truth was slotted in as a replacement and I think they were “Air Truth” for like one episode. Team Hell No were initially “Team Friendship” but that obviously didn’t stick.

Daniel Bryan is going to get almost anything over. Kane saying suck it with the voice box that one time, wwe would do anything to get that kind of reaction from the audience again.

Elgin didn't actually struggle to get over in Japan. He was one the top foreigners in New Japan at one point, & when he's turned up in NOAH on a couple of occasions he's been popular there too.

yeah elgin was a credible IC champion and had some major matches that got over big war machine was just dropped into the tag title rotation cold and did a bunch of multi team clusterfucks so their ceiling was kind of limited there wasnt any actual effort to push or even establish adam cole in japan he was there for like one g1 final, one other tour and a couple special roh shows?

Breitbart Is Rightbart posted:Why did Adam Cole, War Machine and Mike Elgin struggle to get over in Japan? And what are some other examples of gaijin not catching on? When NJPW was on AXS, Michael Elgin looked like a loving champ. In fact, from what I could tell from their run on AXS, all the foreigners were treated really, really well. I'm not a fan of Juice Robinson at all, but they gave him a fair push for some reason.

Juice improved by leaps and bonds and he's charismatic

Juice also entered the dojo system voluntarily so he's considered one of their own moreso than your average gaijin.

What happened with Elgin then? Why's he been banished to wrestling purgatory (Impact)? Was it that scandal from a while back?

# ? May 24, 2020 22:02 |

I don't think any of Elgin's "issues" affected how he was booked in New Japan, they just sort of... stopped pushing him. He'd been pretty stagnant at that point anyway, there's only so much you can do with Good Wrestler With The Most Boring Character On The Planet after a couple years of doing well in the midcard, because in no universe does Michael Elgin ascend to the New Japan main event for anything more than a throwaway title defense on a third tier tour like Destruction or Kizuna Road or something.

No, NJPW had no problem using him and giving him a slight nudge by keeping him in NEVER title matches and G1 etc. He and NJPW agreed to just let his contract expire and he left, that’s it as far as I know Edit: yeah TriffTshngo with the better post

they re-signed him after that but wouldnt let him work for impact in the west. its probably more that elgin’s relationship with everyone he works for eventually turns sour more than that specific thing in particular

They might have had eyes on him as a pillar for the US expansion but crowds booing him out of the building overseas nixed that, so he was left aimless in the increasingly stacked NJ midcard. The depth of talent in the company in 2019 was bounds above their 2015 roster and he never improved. Seriously, in the time he was on, the roster got: - the entire SZKG back from NOAH - the entire LIJ aside from Naito - Switchblade - Juice - Full Time Ibushi - R3K - Ishimori - Ospreay - Zack Tonfa fucked around with this message at 22:39 on May 24, 2020 |

It doesn’t really sound like a ”huff” though, more like a ”I don’t agree with my position in the company and also want to work elsewhere, bye” situation. I also didn’t agree with his position on the roster and am very happy with his current one, ie. on a show I don’t give a quarter of a poo poo about
