My three phases of characters on King of the Hill: 1. Everyone is a one-note joke. Hank is the main character. 2. Everyone gets some deep characterization, they grow and develop. Limited continuity occurs. 3. Stasis. The limits of a show that's been on the air for a while happens.

I don't know if I'd say better but at it's best, yeah I'd say they're on par. And primo episodes weren't uncommon either. What they do do better, unquestionably, was guest stars. Good lord what casting

You know that laugh of the Boggle champion that Peggy beat? That awful 'guffaw'? I feel like that's quintessential KotH. That little, unnecessary addition to a character or scene, that is weird but totally fits and compliments the setting. She didn't have to have that laugh, but she did, and the episode is better for it. I know stuff like that's happened all throughout the show, despite not being able to think of another example. Actually, as I typed that out, I thought of two more; the Russian announcer, desperately describing Peggy's 'BENcil' situation, and the mower show announcer ("SUNDAY, SUNDAY, SUNDAY! *and Saturday*") I love this show and it is perfect.
