I didn't make it that far, by the third episode I was mainly bored with occasional bouts of "holy poo poo that was SO BAD" and switched over to a good show (What We Do in the Shadows) I might finish it because it's only 7 episodes and eventually I'll get curious, but wow. I'm surprised literally anyone watched this show and told them it was funny and should be on TV. e: Agreed on the "Super CEO" bit being kinda funny. There's a small handful of jokes and bits that kind of work, in spite of everything else.

I regularly think about how tons of shows like supernatural or teen wolf or whatever ruthlessly baited fangirls over whether a boy would kiss another boy at some point (this never happened), eventually closing out the shows with less same-sex smooching than occurred between smithers and mr burns

i can agree, in spirit, that even in the most chauvinistic eras of cinema/television you sometimes had solidly written female characters whose strengths often vastly exceed those of modern empowered women, and surprisingly back then this wasn't even a selling point yet nowadays watered down sexism is over female characters are received with great triumphs but truly the past was a mixed bag behold: a full action sequence devoted to following john wayne, shown here with terminator levels of determination, in his quest to spank his wife over a marriage spat and both the town and film itself approves of it as the right way to keep women in line https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nU0jMZ5zVtk

Supernatural is, legitimately, the greatest show about two monster hunter brother and their totally useless angel friend hanging out exchanging angry and longing glances in a triangle while insisting they’re fine that aired for fifteen seasons.

It set out to be what it was and excelled to perfection. The dunking on fans started as early as season 5 and they kept it up rather consistently throughout the years. The highlight was a 4th wall breaking episode where the characters jump realities where they are the actors and are loving confused as hell about why people keep shipping them online. They also show Sam clowning on Dean by showing up the old soap opera scenes of Jensen.

it was a weird little trope where yes, a manly man could in fact be married to a very assertive woman and not lose face by 'only' being an equal in relationship, but he would have to flex his dominance by overpowering and spanking his wife every once in a while (she secretly likes this) it definitely wasn't all that common but it occurred enough that modern commentators tend to see that as strong women having to face some kind of retribution in media in order to keep the delicate scales of male ego balanced

It must be a genre thing, because the True Grit remake has Matt Damon tell the fourteen year old girl he *was* going to kiss her in her sleep, but she’s such a bitch he wants to spank her instead.

"That doesn't seem to matter." Supernatural broke the fourth wall better than any show I've seen, in ways I hadn't even thought of. The ultimate was in The French Mistake, when Misha Collins appeared in the show as a Twitter obsessed parody of himself and live tweeted in synchronicity with the episode airing - twice, once for each coast.

The creator of My Name Is Earl created an account on the Television Without Pity forum under an alternate identity, and posted on the boards for like a solid year just so they could have that account belong to a character who dies in an episode of the the show.

I scared up and watched the first episode out of morbid curiosity, and the best thing I can say about it is that the joke at the very beginning - where Richard calls Julie up and is performative about how he adopted her while obviously knowing nothing about her - I can see coming out of Rusty Venture's mouth. The rest of the episode - gently caress, this should have cost Jonah Hill his career. I thought it did, so I checked the IMDB and.....wow, Jonah Hill's career is pretty loving sad. Since Allen Gregory, the only thing he's really been in is the two Jump Street remakes and some voice acting. One episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm, but that was as himself and not really playing a role. His whole career after Allen Gregory seems incredibly sparse. I wonder if it did kill his career. I recall him being the face of a Call of Duty game or something weird and even since then pretty much nothing. Maybe he was just one of those guys who gets roles in his friends' films and that's it.
