I may be remembering it wrong, but I think almost exactly this was the fuse lighting event that sparked off Civil War II in the It Can Happen Here podcast.

Rumor now is someone started shooting so there you go.

This happened a few years ago at another similar protest in Minneapolis but no one was killed that time.

Did I mention there’s currently a line of strong thunderstorms going through the twin cities tonight? They put up a tornado warning for St Paul and ran the sirens earlier and there’s heavy rain right now.

There's a flare up in Baltimore too. A cop got shot at the Cross Street market, and now the BPD is out in force.

In what seems like the cleverest move I’ve heard of the protestors broke into the precinct parking lot and MPD continued firing tear gas destroying their own personal vehicles in the process.

Kooler than Jesus

The first true anime I saw was Akira. So I thought anime was ok. Then I went to A-school and a guy in my class showed me that.

I stopped thinking anime was ok.

Hell this was all the way back in 94.

hi, i work in computers and webs and study their history. the DOD almost entirely stopped funding fruitful basic research in our field when ARPA became DARPA. it's good for governments to conduct research, and not good to manage the funding and evaluate the results of such research as part of "Defense."

Quantum computer development and supercomputing get a lot of DOD funding to this day. DOD operates several supercomputer research facilities directly. If we're paying for it through defense, it gets counted as defense. HHS isn't going to fund it. Interior isn't going to fund it. DOE and DOD collaborate on a lot of things, but nobody else really has the purview. I'd love to see a cabinet-level science department, but that's fantasy land.

i also think it's pretty defeatist to think that say, we were only ever going to get nuclear power through nuclear warfare or national space programs as testbeds and PR campaigns for ICBM strategies, even if it's obvious that's what happened.

I definitely don't think it's the only way. War and military necessity do speed things up, though.

Edit: Jesus Christ, I didn't realize there were three pages of replies since I left for work this morning.

Man, do I ever have the feeling that there’s some weird and bad poo poo coming down the pike right now. Things kind of seem like they’re approaching a boiling point, and a second spoke of COVID in combination with increased social tension is only going to raise, the temperature ever higher.

I dunno what it looks like but I get the feeling that it’s not going to be a pleasant summer.

Hi there, would you like to try some spicy products?

This was the very first anime I ever saw. I was 14 and that was still my pre-porn phase, which is important.
A friend from school brought it over promising it was super "badass", because of it's "18 rating", and those ratings made everything the forbidden fruit you craved. My sister had our neighbor over and they decided ditching playing barbies or whatever because again, forbidden fruit.

My 14-year-old-rear end was smitten pretty fast by the female protagonist (then again, this was a time that I fell in love with basically every female cartoon character, including, but not limited to, April from the Turtles), and there was some locker scene with mild nudity, that stirred some confusing feelings in me (think Butters from that Lord of the Rings episode on South Park), but I didn't realize this scene should have been a warning sign.
My sister and her friend were basically giggling, going "eww, gross", but also not guessing which direction it would take.

Iirc, there's already a healthy helping of tentacle rape before that scene where the guy chops his Johnson off, and that was basically the turning point for us.
After the next 20 minutes, our neighbor was getting increasingly uncomfortably and eventually announced she had to go home under some pretense. My sister and I sat through the rest of it because my friend promised "the story was really good" and kept promising whichever abhorrent thing we had just witnessed was "honestly already the worst thing in the movie, and it was smooth sailing from here".

The movie ended up both forming and solidifying my extremely deeply-rooted distrust for anime. To this day, I remember how uncomfortable I was while watching that.
The only other visceral memory of feeling uncomfortable while watching a movie was from when I watched Ken Park with my dad. He peaced out a little after half an hour, and I will thank the lord for that until my dying day.
