I mean one of the reasons so much trade goes to China via HK is that HK has a fairly functioning legal system and government independent of the CCP. Losing that independence way ups the risk of dealing with China as a western company, so it's not a matter of helping or hurting HK citizens but rather assessing the safety of dealing with China for outsiders. This will almost certainly hurt the HK citizenry.

Absolutely loving floored that Meng's first hurdle tripped her up, but there is still a long way to go. Hey RCMP/CSIS, I hope you're doing a thorough background check on every person in this photo. I was 90% positive that the judge was going to grasp at any straw to throw this out and be done with it, but I guess that she's either very principled, or the evidence was nothing but a slam-dunk and impossible to ignore.
