There was no such thing as "homosexual" or "heterosexual" in those times and even those labels are extremely modern, with prior cultures mostly placing sexual acts into illicit or approved categories. But yes, laugh at people who only just got the right to marry 6 years ago in the United States (and are still legally punished in multiple countries for existing as themselves) because they're upset at only being a punchline or being portrayed offensively.
