Memory can change the shape of a room; it can change the color of a car. And memories can be distorted. They're just an interpretation, they're not a record, and they're irrelevant if you have the facts.

I don't think he was arrested and charged for a year. The prosecutor was quite proud they charged the current murderer in 4 days instead of a year last time.

They should have rioted over her because we should be shocked at every police death, especially in a country where it happens so often.

He was a Somali cop who killed a white woman during the night, there were absolutely demonstrations and vigils about it but that race dynamic happens about 1,000 times less than black men specifically being targeted and murdered in broad daylight.

Good thing Rio Tinto employees have mostly been working from home since early March.
Even those going in at all have to jump through so many hoops (including rapid blood screenings and staggered start times) just to get in the buildings this week so I'm betting there won't really be anyone to picket.

The government needs to spend lots of money to stimulate the economy, we've just had a couple of months of seeing how many private landlords are not able/willing to look after their tenants in emergency situations, and the public housing stock is lower than it has been for half a century.

How the gently caress is the obvious answer not to engage in post-WWII scale public housing construction?

Nah its good. The above example is to juxtapose the media outlets and what they publish. This is AusPol and that is simply stuff published by major Australian media companies. Its important that stuff gets acknowledged and discussed for what it is- you can't just ignore it if you don't like it. Its not like its posting stormfront- its what your parents and neighbors see in the paper. Its key to understanding the stupidity of the nation. Maybe this thread shouldn't keep its head in the sand and spend half its time complaining about posters in the thread before being driven to existential crisis every election.

Strongly agree with this. It's the Auspol thread, and it's mainstream Auspol. I understand people not enjoying gazing into the abyss, but it's important if you actually want to understand the political context of what's being seen by people less clued-in than you.

Authorities are now investigating whether the attackers tapped into the scheme by setting up fake myGov accounts in their victims' names, then lodging fraudulent early release super applications worth up to $10,000 each.
In Ms Bassett's case, the fraudsters appear to have set up duplicate myGov accounts in her name and her husband's name, and then used stolen identity information to access their ATO portals.
They successfully applied for almost $20,000 in the couple's names, but Ms Bassett and her husband managed to thwart the fraud before the money left their accounts.
"Until then I had no idea it was even possible to have more than one myGov account in your name," she said.
"In order to stop this happening to others, one of the things that should be put in place is a limit on the number of myGov accounts an individual is allowed to have."
Ms Bassett does not know how the attackers accessed her identity information, but Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton said early this month some of the personal data used in the attack was believed to have been stolen from customer files of a tax agent who was hacked.

...

For Ms Basset, the second big security gap revealed by the attack on her and her husband was that the couple were not even eligible to access their super savings under the scheme.
