Is this actually a real trailer from Frontier?

It looks so incredibly boring! Like, putting space legs in a game about flying spaceships already seems kind of pointless, but they could not have made a less interesting trailer if they tried. They couldn't at least have the spacemen running? Maybe a light jog?

I mean it's a teaser, and they seem to be using jet packs which is massively less boring than walking so.

I mean this update is cool and a long time coming for Elite, but No Man's Sky does this already and does it significantly better. The Odyssey update is also paid DLC. I would rather Elite just stick to space exploration and expanding on the parts it already does extremely well.

Well it does say there will be things to discover, so I'm good with that. Better looking planets too. Not really interested in the shooty bits and as I only play in VR I don't know how that will work out.

Criminology major here.

There are many methods and surveys used to gauge the number of violent crimes that happen in this country. Police reports is just one. The National Crime Victimization Survey is perhaps the most famous and/or important.

I don't know if its an unwritten law for tech companies to virtue signal with their tweets and such, but I could have told CIG that this was the reaction they were going to get. I thought CIG understood its core audience? Middle age men with middle to upper middle class jobs with the disposable income to spend thousands on JPEGS on a broken tech demo. Well to do middle age men with middle to upper middle class jobs are the most pro-police demographic around.

Odyssey will probably help to highlight how being able to FPS walk on a procedural terrain continues to be dull and boring as hell.

There's just nothing exciting about going even slower over randomly generated terrain. Even if you can do stuff like mine junk. It's just boring and feels pointless, like you're fighting against a calculator.

Man people are really down on Elite. I thought SRV's added a hell of a lot of dimensionality to the game, eventually. It took them a while to get there, but driving around on planets was cool, and big cities on the ground were cool, and guardian ruins/thargoid sites were cool. Scanning planets with probes and finding geological sites was eventually pretty cool too.

I'd be willing to bet that they will let you out, if you want to get out and run around on planets, and it probably won't be amazing except maybe in VR for scale. But the primary purpose of going on foot will be getting to interior spaces inside landing sites or stations- places you can't access or traverse through other means, because they have to gate this from the main game somehow. I just hope they do what they did with SRV's eventually and let the on-foot activities contribute to the space stuff and vice versa, instead of making it completely walled off from all other content.

I think that would be the baseline. Beyond that what would absolutely thrill me, just blow me away, is if they added atmospheric planets with actual flora/fauna ala No Man's Sky. Again you'd need the expansion to get down to them, which would gate them off from the other content. But that would add immensely to the game and also finally let people land on all those earthlikes they've been discovering from day one. I'd love to catalogue weird species as part of the general exploration data-gathering game. It would just make the universe feel a lot more alive.

The thing about Elite that makes all of this so much more than NMS or Star Citizen, for me, is VR. It is absolutely the king of VR and everything in it looks and feels amazing. Being in an SRV on an alien moon in VR feels like you're actually there and it's one of the coolest experiences in gaming. That more than anything else has me jazzed for getting around on foot.

 Will it get medic / engineer / support roles ?

:trustme: Certainly something we'll want to incorporate eventually, but right now our priority is getting the combat feeling good in a combined arms scenario before moving onto more specialized roles. EDIT: As medical gameplay and other systems come online in future quarters for the PU, we'll be looking closely at how we can incorporate them into Theatres of War.

ahem...on a serious note...all this talk about racism and how to overcome it.

sorry to break the bad news to you but racism is as old as humankind and also it will never disappear.
because its just an “us vs. them“ group-thing.
you may pick any difference you find and just use that. it does not even have to be skin color it can be anything really.

also racism is different for every generation...it shifts over time, its a very fluid thing.
it is not some sort of “absolute“ thing, its one group against another group. at a specific time in a specific place.

 How big is the ToW team and are they dedicated to working on ToW?

:trustme: We are cognizant of resources available and other high profile priorities for the company. Main intent was to provide an environment where we can get an appropriate information which would result in multiple improvements across the board. All the development. playtime and feedback provided directly benefits to needs of Star Citizen and Squadron 42. Team of people specifically dedicated to ToW is very small. Total team size of 10 consists of 4 designers, 2 engineers, 3 artists and 1 producer.

How many temporarily dedicated? :smuggo:

 Will FPS AI ever be introduced in ToW to make the battlefield even larger? Could this be a test bed for FPS AI to get them ready planetside in the PU outside of bunkers?

:trustme: It actually already has some AI (not FPS) that we wanted to prototype as the obvious comparison is with games such as battlefront. ToW is not exclusively a PvP only mode and scenarios can make use of AI when it makes sense. It would be immensely useful to have bots for internal testing as well (even if they aren't that good) but with AI focus needing to be on PU and S42 we have to be mindful of the resources and the ToW group doesn't have any of these specialists for AI.

I am actually excited for ToW now, just because the NPC AI will be so hilariously terrible :gary:
