I went to a GRRM book signing once, and he asked me how I'm enjoying the show (it was in the middle of the first season airing). I said I didn't watch it because I was sure he'll finish the books first soon enough and then I'll be able to watch the adaptation and he gave me a very weird look

One thing I've had to accept recently is when someone doesn't want to do something and they also don't need to do that something, it's not going to happen. GRRM doesn't want to write the ASOIAF series anymore, so it's futile to hope for any more books to come out until he suddenly starts wanting to again. That may happen on a whim, but more likely it will happen when he finally realizes "oh poo poo I may actually die before I can finish this series, time to get these knocked out". But even then, he may not care enough to do it.
