That's not John Cage, so what's this Debussy thing? (I know he was a composer)

no it wouldn't. given an infinite universe containing some amount of matter, it is inevitable that a stone projected by a trebuchet into space in any direction will eventually intersect with a star.

Also a trebuchet in space wouldn't work

Not necessarily, due to increasing entropy stars will at some point cease to exist and all matter will turn into heath. A stone will at some point decay just the same but he might just never hit another piece of matter.

E: that's right, heath, as in Heathcliff the lovable scamp we all grew to adore. What a great prospect!

Also if you fired it anywhere near a mass it would just orbit that mass and not go any further. Thus depending on how you determine "range" the range is limited to about twice the orbital apoapse.

Which, technically, is true of all rocks, fired out of a trebuchet or not.

You just mount the trebuchet 299.99 meters below the point where the projectile would no longer be bound by earth's gravity. There, easy.

if you cover the projectile in sharkskin it will easily slip earth's surly bonds, too smooth for gravity to hold on to

If Bart Simpson fires a slingshot into space, how long before the stone collides with another object and he's finally allowed to see the Itchy & Scratchy Movie

It first collides with Poochi, on the way back to his home planet.

I will not shut up about the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. I talk about them all the time and work them into every conversation I have. I built a shrine in my room for the yellow one who died because sadly no one noticed because she died around 9/11. Wanna see it?

Farewell, good Hunter. May you find your worth in the waking world.

All these are good but oh man, this speaks to my childhood. Anyone remember when sci-fi channel first debuted and for a week or two all it was was some trippy music and a psychedelic screensaver? They’d revert back to it at night sometimes too when I think they didn’t have any programming to fill in the slots. It was all just so early 90’s.
