No idea how his optics were so bad when it came to the statue. He deleted a Jewish friend's comment on his Facebook saying she'd be dropping bread there everyday so seagulls shat all over the statue lol

I spent many years living in Bristol, so proud of them. I really feel like masks come fully off when people harp on about preserving the legacy of slave traders, it's quite funny in a sad way to see the arguments people make. What next, tearing down the buildings it all paid for? No mate, obviously not, cos the buildings don't serve the same purpose as an actual loving monument to the man.

Edinburgh people talking about the statue of Dundas in St Andrew Square, so I had a wee look at the guy's history for the first time in ever and while it would be quite difficult for a crowd to take down, wow jesus this guy was a waste of space:Edinburgh World Heritage posted:The imposing figure who stands on the top is Henry Dundas, 1st Viscount Melville, whose nicknames of ‘King Harry the Ninth’, the ‘Great Tyrant’ and the ‘Uncrowned King of Scotland’, tell their own story. Dundas trained as a lawyer but went on to have a highly successful political career, becoming MP for Midlothian in 1774 and shortly afterwards a government minister. As Home Secretary he used his influence to frustrate efforts to end the slave trade. At the outbreak of war with France he became Minister for War, and many historians blame him for much of the lack of organisation and confused planning in the campaigns that followed. In 1806 he was impeached for the misuse of public funds, and although found not guilty he never held office again. he may have supported the slave trade but people were mean to him so who is to say if he was good or bad

Gyro Zeppeli posted:Glasgow was built almost exclusively on the profits from building slave ships and the tobacco industry. The Peelian Principles, on which the Met was founded: To prevent crime and disorder, as an alternative to their repression by military force and severity of legal punishment. To recognise always that the power of the police to fulfill their functions and duties is dependent on public approval of their existence, actions and behaviour, and on their ability to secure and maintain public respect. To recognise always that to secure and maintain the respect and approval of the public means also the securing of the willing co-operation of the public in the task of securing observance of laws. To recognise always that the extent to which the co-operation of the public can be secured diminishes proportionately the necessity of the use of physical force and compulsion for achieving police objectives. To seek and preserve public favour, not by pandering to public opinion, but by constantly demonstrating absolutely impartial service to law, in complete independence of policy, and without regard to the justice or injustice of the substance of individual laws, by ready offering of individual service and friendship to all members of the public without regard to their wealth or social standing, by ready exercise of courtesy and friendly good humour, and by ready offering of individual sacrifice in protecting and preserving life. To use physical force only when the exercise of persuasion, advice and warning is found to be insufficient to obtain public co-operation to an extent necessary to secure observance of law or to restore order, and to use only the minimum degree of physical force which is necessary on any particular occasion for achieving a police objective. To maintain at all times a relationship with the public that gives reality to the historic tradition that the police are the public and that the public are the police, the police being only members of the public who are paid to give full-time attention to duties which are incumbent on every citizen in the interests of community welfare and existence. To recognise always the need for strict adherence to police-executive functions, and to refrain from even seeming to usurp the powers of the judiciary, of avenging individuals or the State, and of authoritatively judging guilt and punishing the guilty. To recognise always that the test of police efficiency is the absence of crime and disorder, and not the visible evidence of police action in dealing with them. Someone tell the fuckers, please.

Hmm, yeah i stumbled across these stands rather than a unit. I dunno how well they'd cope with something thats the max size though. I think i'd be more trusting of the stability on a unit. frankenbeans posted:Check Facebook Marketplace, it's full of this poo poo around here. That FITUEYES Stand looks pretty good. With the 50" i've got now the maximum area of the included stand takes up most of the space on the current corer unit i've got. I figured a 70" one would end up being too big for it so that stand might be a good alternative. Kin fucked around with this message at 19:31 on Jun 7, 2020 |
