if you're on vendors, the best advice i can give is SKS with PS ammo and NOTHING else. it's a 25k loadout and keep a stack of extra PS in your gamma/alpha

it's 25k for a loadout that can kill most anyone with a single click to the face, and most people with a click to the head.

"get hosed" mostly

the good news is that pretty much everything works for scavs, and you DO start off with access to the mosin/SKS (+ have pistol/mp5k/rec-battery-ADAR face-shooting options)

and the advice remains generally applicable, insofar as you should be prioritizing acquisition of magazine-fed 7.62 weapons (and 30 round magazines) wherever possible

Rifles just aren't my style but I'll gladly adapt until I open up the market. What I've been doing is running in naked and charging for weapon and wooden crates. I'm making a lot of money like this but not much XP.

I did an M9 pistol from Peacekeeper with Bank Robbers and Sling bags to minimize losses so I could hop on the flea full force at 10. It’s got a 17 round mag and I like the iron sights much better than the TT. I played slow, killed some scavs, and like a loot goblin focusing on making it out alive, all the way to ten and only took a few raids. I was able to focus on quests and the items for them and got a ton of the early stuff just hitting hidden stashes at night.

The SKS or Mosin also come highly recommended.

I wouldn’t worry about losing any of the level one gear, I always got about 80% of it back on insurance.

i would highly suggest an actual primary like the SKS or mosin (mosin is more expensive and i'd argue less effective) than a pistol so you're not tagged and cursed.

I seem to find a lot more armor piercing 5.56 rounds in stashes and crates than anything else, so any time I get my hands on an ADAR I'll use that over an AK. If you click fast enough it's pretty much automatic, anyways.

8 of those brown handled knives can be traded for an mp5, which is a very decent early level gun. It has very low recoil and a good rate of fire, so even though the ammo isn't great a magdump should take down any scav or non-sweaty player. If you get the drop on someone it's also accurate enough for headshots at medium range so you can conserve ammo. You'll find those knives on the majority of scavs you kill so you might as well take em and try the gun out for free.

Yeah but anyone who is sub 10 asking this advice is asking for things that can be bought with money over and over again cuz we're dying over and over again. I'm not going to run ten scav rounds to have a chance to use a gun I'm going to lose in the first map I bring it to.

Don’t be afraid to just focus on learning maps and getting a feel for player, scav, and worthwhile loot spawns. Once you get through that, money won’t be something you worry about too often.

I can have a completely garbage run and cover the cost by vendoring a handful of hidden cache items.

Pick one or two maps and learn them. I would suggest Shoreline stashes, Interchange garage runs or Reserve night scav runs. There are quite a few newer dudes playing on discord these days, join up and find an active voice channel and ask for help. Virtually everyone I regularly play with would be glad to help.

I would avoid customs at first, which sucks because a lot of quests require that you play it. It's a bit of a death trap. But ymmv.

e: In regards to your XP woes, don't worry about playing optimally to start. Entering a raid, killing a few scavs, looting a few crates and then extracting is the best you can probably hope for. I play pretty late west coast times, if you're around jump in and we can help you out.

if you're new and have absolutely no idea what you're doing: SKS with PS ammo is by far the best option

22k for a rifle and dirt cheap ammo that's actually decent is the best you can do, play slow and click heads

I only got to level 10 yesterday and picked up a couple of mp5s along the way, lost em and got em back on insurance once each I think

You're going to die over and over again regardless of your level, that's the game.

Also, you said you're going in naked and running for crates. Are you doing any scav runs? For up to about level 5 my routine was to do a scav run and head for extract as long as their gear wasn't total poo poo (ie a toz), then that was my gear for my next PMC run. Don't have to worry about losing it as it was free, so you can just go ahead and do your quests or look for fights to earn xp

yeah, if you're new, don't know what you're doing, or know ur poo poo then spam scav runs on cooldown over and over, if it's 2 minutes until it comes back wait and run it.

your goal is to secure your extract, and kill another one (or two) NPC scavs on the way and pick up their loot

This is exactly why I enjoy Reserve night runs. 99% of the time you spawn in scav fields, you can run to motorpool, loot anything that hasn't been touched yet and then move to dome/pawn buildings and loot until you extract. If you're still below level 10 you rarely die as long as you're on your toes and you get a mediocre scav weapon to use on your PMC.

e: \/ Very true. Especially when your buddy dies in an exposed location. Find a comfortable spot with some decent concealment and wait for the headshot to come to you.

also patience is a HUGE virtue in this game, if you're willing to wait 20 minutes for a single kill (or two) you can just camp high traffic areas or exit camp

generally going to be better off getting something else that takes up those two slots and selling to just buy a gun than saving up 8 knives unless you get them purely from your scavs and have them in the scabbard

you really have to just go in and learn customs, if you refuse to you wont progress quests which give tons of xp and unlock important vendor purchases later. learn customs, its really not that bad, and its also going to generally have more lower levelled and geared players as long as youre staying out of dorms.

also for questing dont be afraid to just jump into nighttime raids if youre struggling. stuff like getting the pocket watch or getting the package/file out of the customs office are a lot easier on night raids.

All of the keys I have sold vendored to Therapist for only 1-2k rubles less than the minimum flea price (so like 198k instead of 200k). Not sure if that is the case for all of them, though. Might even be the same price with the listing fees.

I think it was to take the front sight off and put your target in the indentation of the rear sight to reliably make shots of about 150-200m.

That's just from memory though, haven't done it myself.

Don't need to run 10 scav rounds. No on ever grabs those knives. If you have a scav vest and even a smaller bag/backpack you can run around pulling knives off dead scavs all day. I'd pop into factory and end up with 6 or 7 and be out in less than 5 minutes if I wanted. You can also trade the black handled ones in for a p226. I'd usually keep a stack of both kinds in my stash for trading. If you wanted to do some cheap runs or needed some base gear for a quest run, slap on an mp5 to avoid the curse and go to it.

Big protip in early wipe right now is not a lot of people are running NVGs or thermals, so night time versions of maps (except factory because its completely pitch black) are excellent to run for loot or quests. I'm at level 17 and I've been exclusively running night raids for all my quests because the lobby is generally emptier, scavs vision at night sucks, some scavs use flashlights so its easy to spot them, and if you do bump into a player in the dark, lots of the time you can disengage and sprint away in the dark. Only time it really sucks is while scavs night vision sucks, once they do spot you (i.e. they give out a voice command and aggro you), they can see through bushes and shadows easily so if you run into one, run the hell away and sneak back on them.

Try not to do midnight directly as the moon can be fairly bright, aim for 2-3am or 11-12pm. Be aware that 15min in raid equals 1 hour in game, so if you spawn in at 4am you'll likely be in morning/day by the time you need to extract.

It's terrifying, so expect to poo poo your pants a few times, but once you get the hang of it it's great and previously unnavigable areas of a map become fine because of the view distance or fog (for example, in Shoreline, running through suicide fields is viable if its super dark and foggy). Bring a flashlight for looting, but use it intermittently.

“Tagged and Cursed” is applied to your character if you don’t bring in a primary weapon (although I have yet to experience this on my pistol only runs).

Nearby scavs automatically aggro when in a certain range regardless of if they see you or not.

AKSU sucks and so does the ammo that's used in it, use the SKS

actually scratch that, it comes with a mag with BP ammo in it it's far better than the SKS

At level 1 brapor, you can spent 28,000 on a full auto gun with 24,000 roubles worth of ammo in it, basically making the gun 4,000 roubles

BIG caveat to this- how dark your nights are depends on some variable that no one I know has been able to isolate. I have been with my squad on night maps and will have a map that is literally 100% black pixels beneath the skyline, can't see a drat thing- but for some of my teammates, they can be on the exact same graphics settings and they report that there is more than enough light to see easily, like a night in a movie. It's not monitor stuff either, we've swapped screenshots and they report that my screenshots are pitch black and impossible to use and I can see that things are perfectly clear for them.

If you're one of the people who can see well at night, great, you might find night maps helpful. If not, they're far more of a hindrance than help, because you'll be going up against people who can see much better than you for an arbitrary reason, and you're at a huge disadvantage.
