The owner of Fulltone Pedals had some things to say about the demonstrations going on right now https://www.guitarworld.com/news/fulltone-owner-apologizes-for-looting-rant You'd think people would know not to chud out in public these days, but I guess not.

I recently bought a Fulltone OCD a few months ago and I really like the pedal (aside from the ugly rear end fonts, seriously, comic sans???) but I feel that I can't keep it on my board anymore after seeing that news. Going to replace it with a Vick Audio Tree of Life, and then sell the OCD and donate the money to a good cause.

Some friends of mine are selling Fulltone OCD clones with 100% of proceeds to the LA County Bail Fund: https://www.instagram.com/p/CA_gVRMnIKn/?igshid=v2b7cgwzyx9p https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf_OHN_jEEUG9Vyf3j3Hn9elEXig48Z9US4wxdr2cCmp_vz0w/viewform edit: so they've had 36 pre-orders which is cool but it just wouldn't be humanity without some really cool dudes participating: Dang It Bhabhi! fucked around with this message at 15:20 on Jun 5, 2020 |

May be obvious because it's the same company but that goes for Musician's Friend as well. No Fulltone.

Pretty lame on part of the Fulltone guy. The big guitar store here in town actually got looted during a protest a few days ago and the owner's response was "ehh, it's just guitars. Black lives are more important."

Somebody with small hands wanted an easier time getting their thumb on the low E? I would've just learned some new fingerings instead of busting out the rasp, personally.

If rolled fingerboard edges are good then more rolling must be better.

I feel like this would be the kind of thing were you have to weight the pros and cons based on your playing style. Like for example, I love Jazzmasters and how they sound, but even with a mastery bridge, I just couldn't vibe with my own; so, even if I find them utterly boring, I'd probably work much better on live shows with something like one of Jim Root's Jazzmasters taking into account my playing style (95% rhythm work with very simplistic solos), tbh.

BonHair posted:It looks like of cool in a black metal way, but it looks very uncomfortable to play. What is the point of it? The luthier is an idiot. He lists lots of cheap partscasters on Ebay UK as "custom luthier jobs" but has an obsession with buying cheap seven stringers and converting them (badly) into sixers for a 'wider fretboard for learners'. Peavey Raptors and Harley Bentons are his guitars of choice. He also puts telecaster bridge pickups everywhere - neck position, behind the tailpiece, on basses, everywhere. No idea why. The fretboard thing is a new development but the distinguishing characteristic on all of his work is that he cuts the nuts so low and wide they look like saw blades and become useless if the truss rod tweaks even half a millimetre. You're not actually allowed to discuss him on the UK forums cause it's started to be a bit of a pile on and we don't think he's actively trying to rip anyone off - he's just a bit clueless. Unfortunately he markets this stuff to beginners who don't know any better and charges fairly high prices for his "customs" so I've started to feel he's fair game again.

That one guitar with the odd body kind of forces you to use it like a classical in proper position. I know someone who got one because they had an injury and regular guitars aggravated it a lot. I can’t remember it specifically how though.

Michael Hedges was very New-Agey and his music, as one reviewer said, was, "sometimes a little too close to the hot tub." But I loved the guy. He died young (in a car crash in 1997), and he did the harp guitar thing, and eventually got an electric Klein version. It's pretty fuckin' neat, and probably stupid music poo poo as well! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9icZV3YIrDA&t=75s For anyone who missed his short era he was on this New Age label with other acoustic guitar wizards and the most interesting thing about him (IMHO) was that he went to a "jazz conservatory" to learn music and considered himself a composer first and a guitarist second. Pretentious as all hell I agree, but it's the reason why all of his songs are in these crazy tunings (allegedly). He said he wrote the music first then figured out how to play it and the tuning came from there. He is the only guy I know of who ever did anything really mind-bending with a trans-trem (he even called out EVH for being so lazy with his.) So I guess I should share those as well, because they are clever and very beautiful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BqUGC11NFeM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0kZeUNXuoYA ...and yes, I am pretty sure I have posted these before so please forgive. Chrpno posted:Certainly an interesting angle to call 70's EVH "lazy" Hedges said that Eddie's use of the trans-trem on the two songs he used it, "Summer Nights" and "Get Up," was lazy. Hedges was not wrong. All Eddie did was play the exact same chords but transposed the key by locking the trem up or down. Still, 5150 is one of my favorite albums and I like those songs a lot. They're anthemic and badass and they were the soundtrack of my senior year of High School along with DLR's Skyscraper and Mr. Big and Badlands and lots of other great stuff. As you can hear in Point A and Point B, Hedges used the transposition ability of the trem to create big modulations while having to make new chord forms as the tuning changes. Note his use of transposing harmonics, chords, and sustained notes; which were actually notes he had to slide up or down the neck to maintain the pitch, to create such interesting compositions. NO ONE was calling 1970's EVH "lazy."
