anyway, is this the basic timeline of the series?

- drakengard's joke ending happens
- mid 21st century Nier and Yonah are human
- 1000 years later the events of Nier happen
- humans make androids to oversee project gestalt; popla and devola model gently caress up; project gestalt collapses; humans are doomed to extinction
- 4th ending of nier happens
- androids do ??? until...
- aliens invade, create the Machines, giving them cover to start YoRHa and instigate a forever war to give (most) androids some meaning in their "lives"
- machines rebel against the aliens; machines could easily win but have become curious about humans. they use YoRHa to learn more about humans, since androids lived among them and exhibit some of the same behaviors as humans
- automata happens
- Emil's Heads weapon story sets up a sequel

If all of that is correct the only thing I don't really get is what androids did from the extinction of humans until the aliens invaded.
Despite the events of Nier 1, other facilities for reclaiming gestalts around the world were still kicking! In the meantime, they set up the Human Heritage Restoration Project which was an attempt at keeping the human society go on, with the roles played by androids. The last non-Emil human died 700 years after Nier, and some centuries after a faction of androids rebelled and decided to all migrate to Australia, which is now a state independent from the android central government (which was what HHRP turned into after time).

So really, they were just... living. Doing human things with the knowledge of being androids. „Army of humanity” was a sham from the start.

Also, at some point magical-salt-tainted Tokyo gets sealed off into another dimension, appearing in Drakengard 3, and kicking off magic in the Drakengard world

I've never played any of the Drakengard games but from the bits and pieces I know it's wouldn't surprise me if it's plot-related. I don't know if it's a spoiler but Drakengard is a diverging timeline from the real world at some point in the 9th century CE.

And it made one-eighth the difference.
Excited to revisit this ragtag group of misfits and their misadventures in misery and despair.

Would've preferred Papa Nier of course but it'll be a nice twist to re-experience the game from Bro Nier's perspective this time, plus there's always the original.

Holy poo poo those screenshots look gorgeous, if that tweet is from a reliable source (the info about Platinum helping out with the game, being much more than a remaster, changing the combat to be more similar to Automata, making everything feel ‘new’ and re recorded VA, and 9S and 2B’s VA’s being involved) then I’m even more excited, I already was but I think the og Nier still holds up and feels like a prototype Automata as far as combat, and there’s still hogs you can ride on and drift so.. but yeah this seems like it’s going to be much more than making the graphics nicer and polishing the mechanics.

I almost posted this in the PS4 thread but got lazy and also thought that everyone hated Nier details, like the time everyone just posted their favorite tracks from Nier, which I could honestly do forever and would follow a thread dedicated to gushing about the Nier/Drakengard soundtracks. But I might just do that cause there’s nothing else happening on the PS4 except TloU2, but Nier: Replicant is probably my most anticipated game besides Elden ring which might not come out for PS4.

Also I saw an article that said Square Enix delayed a bunch of games internally and there was a list that might’ve been leaked or just fake, but it was an image of like SE’s roadmap and listed Nier: Replicant as a 2021 release, which is fine, id rather it take advantage of the PS5 so there’s no load times.

This is the thread for that.

They're not my absolute favorite tracks, but I love how the City Ruins theme evolves over time. It starts with this fantasy-like sound that's peaceful, mysterious, and adventurous at the same time. It's perfect for this overgrown environment where you start out as an observer. There are stories and secrets from long ago buried in the ruins. The vocals seem to speak of something long lost that is unknown to you.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DoLCLGx2E08

The track at the beginning of route C uses the same motif. It's reminiscent of Asian military songs. There's a feeling of dread that is overpowered by duty. The men chant as they march to their deaths while the women lament. The mysterious, hazy dolefulness of the first track is corrupted by outright conflict and despair. This sets the scene for what will happen in this chapter.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-DLUmOKSw8

After the introduction of route C, this third track goes back to the original theme but with more power. The story of the ruins and the thing that was lost is no longer a distant, hidden memory but a reality that you are now faced with. Things are now personal. Whereas previously your goals were ambiguous, you now move with purpose (ironic considering you have been stripped of what you might have called your original purpose).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--3R0cwiH6E

That this soundtrack can tell its own story in a language that no one understands is just remarkable.

They forgot those last few notes at the end that you can't see or hear or predict so you still lose after perfectly completing the previous grueling 8 minutes.

Yes, Yukiko Yoko is the lead illustrator for the Drum Master series and is a pretty celebrated artist over there. Before Automata, she probably had a more successful career than him! I believe she also sang one of the songs in Katamari.
The two of them spend a good chunk of time dunking on each other on Twitter.

how much more game do I have if I've just done the first 9s mission of route c to the resource extractor? I peeked at a walkthrough's headers and it looks like I might be almost done? I kinda thought route C and beyond was more like the second half of the game than the finale.
