Lynyrd Skynyrd was anti-George Wallace and anti-handgun (see "Saturday Night Special"). Their Confederate Flag imagery was largely the doing of MCA marketing and not really something the band was about.

Skynyrd (at this point I think is basically just Rossington) stopped using it about five years ago. Said it was hijacked by racists. So Skynyrd always was and still is misguided but came to the right conclusion. Compare to Pantera, who were all racists, but also genuinely believed the flag wasn't.
