Not saying that this dude is using the term in this meaning, but "Libertarian Socialism/Communism" used to be an alternative name of sorts for Anarchism, often used by Anarchists themselves. Most notably alot of the Spanish Anarchists during the Spanish Civil War days and before used to refer to themselves as "Libertarian", though they also most likely did not see themselves as Marxists as they where very much the adherents of a different Socialist tradition.

People have been pretty vocal about what he said but he just handwaves it away. This is usually how Bard handles criticism so that's all pretty unsurprising. People are also calling for TV4 to cut their ties with him but their spokesman says he can't see how it's their business what Bard says. Yeah, same spokesman said you can't compare Paolo and Bard but be that as it may Bard has still gone too far (again). It actually triggers me to see TV4s gutlessness on display, though it doesn't surprise me like I wish it would.

And Bard... Well, lets just say I feel justified about my long-running loathing of the man. Pretentious black hole of opinions and attention given far too much space over the years. Brr.

Filming of a publicly funded racist show was derailed by *checks notes* a reaction to racism.

https://ekstrabladet.dk/flash/filmogtv/dr-optagelser-gik-helt-galt/8160541

quote:

Bard is just a combination of libertarian ideology, a complete lack of empathic skills and edgelord contrarianism. His main problem (among many) is his libertarian background which means that he refuses to accept that there are anything resembling society or systems - everything is down to the individual. Which means that racism isn't real, gender inequality isn't real, homophobia isn't real and so on. It's just people whining.

Of course this doesn't fly once you discuss actual issues. Then he simply uses his "controversial intellectual" image which is hilariously shallow, and when people object to his problematic stances he always go for his edgelord roots and just call them names until he's temporarily deplatformed. We've seen this before. Thankfully it's being shut down pretty effectively this time. For those who missed it, he even tried the incredibly dumb "my cohost is a WHORE for disagreeing with me. That WHORE! Oh, and it's ok for me to say 'whore' because I worked as a sex worker when I was younger. YOU DUMB WHORE!". I mean, he makes himself dumber than he is really.

Now, Bard had some interesting thought before. Libertarians sometimes pick up a few good ideas, such as questioning Sweden's badly managed anti-drug use policies and laws. He was pretty early on talking about a digitalized society.

However, that was like 15 years ago. The world has moved on. With little new thoughts to lean on, he's just playing the contrarian, and it's quite obvious that he's a very loud, but hilariously empty, vessel. By now he has joined and been kicked out of something like half the parties on the right side of the spectrum, including the more obscure ones like Medborgerlig samling.

Swedens anti-drug use law is insane and should be called out on an international level.

A man was held down by cops as they forced a tube down his penis so they could take a urine sample by force to determine if he had used drugs that would amount to a 70 euro fine.

Sadly in the case of drug legislation I think we are temporarily stuck since older generations in particular love them some zero tolerance of non-prescribed narcotics. Attitudes are changing, but it'd take one hell of an informational and educational campaign to push something like that through in an expedient manner, and I just find it hard to trust our media to really support it beyond the occasional panel debate show.

Of course that doesn't mean I think we shouldn't be pushing for it because as it stands - and as you said, that whole section of swedish law is a travesty and needs working over.

Oh it goes waaay back, this part of his wikipedia page is funny as gently caress:

"Bard converted to the Iranian original branch of Zoroastrianism in 1992[13] after years of intense religious studies. He explains his decision to convert in his book Syntheism - Creating God in The Internet Age with Jan Söderqvist by stating that without a solid foundation in philosophical and theological history, the idea of Syntheism as a set of new religious ideas for a globalized and digitalized world in the 21st century, would not carry its necessary weight. The conversion could also be understood when Bard and Söderqvist place Zoroastrianism next to Taoism and Buddhism in their work in what they refer to as The Silk Route Triad, as the historical peak of religious thought and practice."

Bard in 1992: "Hmm.. I have these avantgarde ideas on a new, digitalized world, but people don't take me seriously. I know! I'll add religion to give it more gravitas! I'll just consult my handy tier list of eastern religions, and pick from my S tier list. Beep boop I'm super smart!"

The Danish government, in their infinite wisdom, has decided to confiscate two out of five weeks of vacation from everyone - and now some of these money are getting paid out as a boost to summer vacation stuff (which means they'll be paid out in October, so just trust the government that they won't be confiscated when the next COVID-19 exponential growth period hits!).

Generally speaking, people get a lump sum based on how much money they earn, which seems fair.
The exception is that all the people on 'overførselsindkomst' (ie. money from the government, either in the form of a pension, unemployment benefit, or the like) get just a thousand Danish kroner, which aren't useful for any kind of vacation and can't be used for the only other option the government seems to think the money should be put to, which is to invest in ecologically sound luxury furniture.

The small amount of salt I've met is people in Skåne being barred from Denmark, which has more cases than Skåne, while tons of Danes have kept going over to Skåne the entire Spring to do shopping, get haircuts, eat at restaurants etc. while Copenhagen was shut down. But that's less about people wanting to be allowed into Denmark and more about the hypocricy of Danes coming here. Overall people seem to be pretty set on doing more local vacationing this year.

As someone living in an EU country that has imposed quarantine on everyone travelling from Sweden, it does represent an inconvenience if I want to visit the glorious motherland this summer, but it's not like I have a job anyway so no one gives a poo poo if I'm trapped at home for two weeks after coming back. I do not, however, feel slighted.

The only thing I find a bit annoying is the smugness and hypocrisy of people here when they speak to me about Sweden's policy (which they inevitably do, because who can contain themselves when they meet a representative of Corona Hell). They'll go "well, look at how BAD Sweden is, maybe you should be GOOD like us instead, we are doing Corona right and are currently WINNING" :smuggo: and they'll be the same people who decide they don't need to social distance anymore and can start throwing parties in their flats. On some level I guess it makes people feel better, safer and more in control if they believe they're on "winning" side (a country that had lockdowns). But when I step outside my flat I see absolutely nothing that's "better" about what people are actually doing here. Now that it's warm there are big gatherings in the parks every night, nobody maintains a 1,5 m distance anywhere and the local restaurants are full again.

Who's gonna care about not being "allowed" to visit Norway? People only go there for work. Pretty sure there are a lot more Norwegians upset that they still can't go buy cheap candy at the border shops, or visit their cabins or go boating.

Denmark is similarly more of a transit to real countries than a destination, for when you don't wanna have to sleep on the ferry.

What the government is salty about is that all states are cooking up their own arbitrary travel restrictions rather than coordinating through the EU.
