Not in English, no. But the former president of Croatia Franjo Tuđman was obsessed with Huntington and used to quote him extensively to justify the dreadful Croat atrocities against the Bosniaks in Bosnia, which included torture of POWs, massacres of entire villages and concentration camps.
If you look up “Tudjman Huntington” you will get some links to books and papers on Google Books, but I can’t access them right now and keep getting server error messages so I don’t know whether they’re any good.

im not an expert, but my understanding was that in many areas of latin america, indigenous beliefs intermixed with the catholic church in a lot of ways so i dont really get whats wrong with acknowledging that? i dunno, that was just my understanding at the least.

I can't really say anything about the entirety of South America, but in Brazil, Indigenous beliefs didn't intermix at all (okay, maybe a little bit with the lower-class immigrants), and were mostly stamped out by Jesuits and other colonizers that used native populations as slave labor by Catholics. When African slavery picked up, some practices and rituals survived the trip over the ocean and intermixed among themselves (mostly on the northeastern state of Bahia), forming the Candomblé religion.

Neither of them mixed *that much* with Catholicism, which was until pretty recently the majority religion.

ETA: I'm not a specialist in this and much less a scholar, and it has been a quite a while since my last Local History class, but I'm pretty certain of the general way things went.

There are certainly elements of local indigenous beliefs that have been syncretized along with Catholicism in large portions of the world, including Latin America but also Africa and Northern America (cf. Lac Ste. Anne pilgrimage). However, it's clearly identifiable as Catholicism and recognized as such by the Vatican.

I think most of the contention around Huntington's assertions around Latin America is that despite being a region largely speaking Romance languages, practicing slightly off-brand Catholicism, and with extensive historical ties to European countries, he claims it's a separate civilization from "the West." And that's ignorant at best and straight-up anti-Hispanic racism at worst.

I read the book as a young twenty-something and while it's more nuanced than the criticism would hold (i.e. he does at least recognize that there's outlier countries that don't fit into his scheme), it's still at its heart incredibly reductive and not all that useful for understanding the world. Societies have a much broader spectrum of philosophical belief within them than the monoliths he divides the world into. And asserting that Islam and the West are FATED to CLASH FOREVER because THEY'RE JUST TOO DIFFERENT is the kind of bullshit that was used to justify the post-911 wars.

Huntington was correct at the very basic level of predicting that 21st-century conflicts would revolve more around culture/religion/identity than ideology. That puts him firmly above Fukuyama.

His mistake was writing an entire book (which is less awful than goons are making it out to be) around that premise, and stuffing it full of examples, which are necessarily arbitrary and easy to pick apart simply because history/sociology/anthropology aren't exact sciences. Many of the examples are also just dumb, as pointed out.

The map was actually showing "civilizations", not religions. Latin america is distinct for *reasons* which are in the book. The book itself describes the map as only one possible version, that what exactly counts as a civ and what doesn't is up for debate/interpretation.

It feels like if you make Latin America a thing then anglo-America also needs to be a thing, at which point you've got to wonder why all of Europe is one thing.

Basically the west is just Australia and New Zealand.
