What's the deal with Persona 4? Did I just get tricked into buying a boring virtual novel disguised as a JRPG? How many more hours in a row am I going to be pressing A?

Like two or three, probably.

It does have some of that good SMT dungeon crawling, but it's broken up with a LOT of talking. If you want more of a normal JRPG experience, hope and pray that Atlus ports SMT Nocturne or Digital Devil Saga.

It has some romance, you can choose to date some of the female characters, but no sex. It's not that kind of VN.

So I couldn't resist and bought Persona 4 (even if I end up not liking it, I have spent a lot more money on things I ended up not liking than 20 bucks...) and I have a quick question before I begin playing: English Voices, or Japanese Voices? I assume Japanese voices are with subtitles, which is usually how I prefer to consume my animes, but I didn't find any setting that would handle subtitles, so now I'm paranoid about there being cut-scenes, or minor conversations or anything without subtitles.

Torchlight 1 was "Hey, we're kinda like a mini-Diablo 2, remember the good old days?" before Diablo 3 was out.
Torchlight 2 was "Diablo 3 is kinda bad, huh? Here's us doing the traditional D2 thing again" and it worked very well.

Since then better games have entered the picture (Path of Exile, Grim Dawn) and Torchlight 3 doesn't seem like it has anything meaningful to add to the genre.

There are a handful of animated cutscenes that didn't have subtitles on Vita; no idea if that's been changed for PC.

It has a good dub, I say just go with English.

But there is an option to turn subtitles in the anime cutscenes now. I think it's under audio, maybe? Otherwise, all the scenes with talking have regular ol' text boxes, so you wouldn't need separate subs anyway.

RIP Duelyst
Finished Doom: Eternal finally after at least a month of putting it off. Final boss is good, 2nd final boss is good, game overall is pretty sweet. The game does innovate a little bit too much though, and this may actually why the game is so polarizing. Some hate it, others love it. I, for one, cannot imagine playing a Doom game after this without the dashes.

XCOM: Chimera Squad very much feels like an XCOM-lite, with matching low budget & all. Sure, the moment to moment XCOM gameplay is there, but overall the game feels very plain overall. I'm probably going to push through the 1st "investigation result" mission & if the game still doesn't grab me, I'm probably just going to throw it back into the backlog.

Gears Tactics on the other hand, feels incredibly flashy & Gears-like. Every finisher is incredibly gory & detailed, every gunshot is loud & good, basically it's almost like a Diablo 3 tactics game, if that makes sense. Still, the lootboxes concept is strange, and the fact that I should actually end my turns multiple times just to reset all the CD's before proceeding to the next engagement feels off-putting a bit, especially with the absolutely no way of manual saving in game. Even now I think of that 1 lootbox I left behind because I accidentally killed off the last enemy by overwatch.

Troubleshooter however, took the crown for now. The graphics are not as good as Gears Tactics & even XCOM: Chimera Squad sometimes, the animation is a little bit stilty even, but the gameplay. The customization. drat this is game seems super good so far. Translation is a little bit wonky, but workable. Plus the dev seems to update the game very frequently, so that felt good.

On mobile, it's Legends of Runeterra as always. Strangely I haven't burnt out yet on the game even when I've been playing it religiously for the last month or so. Plus I haven't even delved into the Constructed part yet, just content with playing Expedition all day every day. I'm probably going to start dipping my toes into Constructed soon though, since I'm going to max out on my region levels now - only 2 left, and the XP is going to be slightly less exciting once they're maxed out.

So, I kept hearing about how great Sleeping Dogs was. And how everyone is so hyped about the sequel. Well, I bought it, started it up. It feels like, well, it's basically Grand Theft Auto in Hong Kong. It feels more like those True Crime: Streets of _____ games from the 2000s, and I think it's probably by the same people? Well, it's fun. I mean, it's like... not bad. But wow, I don't really... understand why everyone is so excited about a sequel. Don't get me wrong, this is a fine game, it's made well enough, and it's a lot of fun. But it's nothing groundbreaking. So I don't get it.

Today I saw some ad or something about the sequel and realized Sleeping Dogs isn't the game I was thinking of. It was Watchdogs.

Sleeping Dogs definitely left a lot to be desired, but it was also a sign of greater things to come. We would probably have a strong rival to the GTA franchise by now if they didn't force the devs to do an online shooter or whatever the hell they were making.

Square should focus less on their foreign devs and more on their own games, such as the lacklustre ports of their classic franchise.
