I read one once for a book club where the woman is investigating a country house and theres a mystery afoot at the manor and anyway at the end it turns out the long term caretaker of the estate and the real estate agent both knew the solution to the mystery and would have shared if she just asked them but she was having fun learning local history and loving a park ranger that it felt rude to interrupt.

btw those tags finally yielded an answer, sort of: there's literally hundreds of people complaining about the phenomenon referenced in the original post: that authors will have all sorts of fairly normal fanfictions, and then lots of hockey rpf   I personally counted over 300 tags of "hockey rpf" or "loving hockey rpf" before I just got tired and bored of counting it (although there's also a lot of complaining about hawaii 5-0? Like, a LOT  )but this particular set of tags from this person I think mostly gives us the solution     mystery solved!

But before you assume "all women do this" the pushback and a lot of the anger in the tags/comments is that it's gross to write fanfiction about real people. So writing hockey rpf is definitely not by consensus "ok"
