The first questions to arise are: how is the discipline of the proletariat’s revolutionary party maintained? How is it tested? How is it reinforced? Third, by the correctness of the political leadership exercised by this vanguard, by the correctness of its political strategy and tactics, provided the broad masses have seen, from their own experience, that they are correct. Without these conditions, discipline in a revolutionary party really capable of being the party of the advanced class, whose mission it is to overthrow the bourgeoisie and transform the whole of society, cannot be achieved. Without these conditions, all attempts to establish discipline inevitably fall flat and end up in phrasemongering and clowning. On the other hand, these conditions cannot emerge at once. They are created only by prolonged effort and hard-won experience. Their creation is facilitated by a correct revolutionary theory, which, in its turn, is not a dogma, but assumes final shape only in close connection with the practical activity of a truly mass and truly revolutionary movement.

Imagine being 17 and extremely angry while posting in defense of Makhno, and getting hundreds, or maybe even thousands, of likes and retweets for it. You get added to a group DM run by a weird 40 year old man whose high point in life was organizing the library at Occupy Cleveland. You get in a weeks long posting feud with a Chilean tankie over the power of labor unions in the PRC. You declare victory after opponent gets banned from twitter, event though the ban was because your opponent made a death threat against a US libertarian who lives in Chile, and unrelated to your argument. You have an interior life more dramatic than anyone around you. Then you graduate high school and grow out of that phase. You begin to read Lenin and everything makes more sense. anyway, I was gonna post a tweet from a dumb anarchist talking about how people should destroy the Lenin statue in Seattle, but I looked at the profile and the poster was a literal child

i hung out in the breadtube/chomsky joint discord for a few months trying to build discussion and encourage further reading on a variety of topics but i left b/c most the conversation ended up revolving around controversies by racist chat members they refused to ban on philosophical grounds

i was pretty close friends with one of the twitter left golden boy communist whiz kids for awhile super impressed me with his historical/theory knowledge and charisma, but set off every alarm bell i had i helped do research for a couple of papers and articles he wrote and some other side stuff before we went our separate ways, but yeah, every person like that on twitter accumulates an inner circle of likeminded lefties who just pitch labor to them for various poo poo and act as sounding boards for their ideas, it all feels like you're doing stuff that'll lead to something substantive but it's a lot of wank usually last i heard he went through a couple cancellation crises after one of his exes (a popular egirl) dragged him for being a manipulative creep, cheating on her, and being a raging narcissist (duh). he was a good looking young guy and was just buzzsawing through lady comrades i think he flamed out hard from soc media after and decided to do like, actual left poo poo w/ organizing and labor unions, godspeed sir! if i ever hear his name involved with something substantive in the movement, i'd probably take huge notice
