Is that a possible expansion? It is. Can I imagine Russia in particular doing it to flex (or just saying they did it)? Yeah. But right now, that’s just not how China and the US are working. They’re way more into dickhead weapons that can kill a high value target or blind some radars or smash an important asset in garrison/port without starting a nuclear war. Imagine how pointless it would be for someone like China to fire a handful of sneaky low yield nukes at the US. It’s dumb. Now imagine how much it could benefit them if they had a credible platform for just day 1 blinding rival ballistic missile radars or crippling a big ship without risking nuclear response.
