Hey, thanks for the encoding tips; I've been fiddling with my settings since it appears the game was taking up a whole bunch of GPU processing... for some reason, which didn't leave any overhead for the NVEC to run properly. Dropping the game from very high to high (which I legit cannot tell apart) made the GPU% usage go from ~90 to ~45. Yeah, I don't know either. Having said that, I'm still getting the ocassional "encoder overloaded" error which just completely ruins my recordings, so I've gone back to Shadowplay until I sort it out. Now, quick question: My original (abandoned 4 updates in) thread is super dead (locked for archival). I'm planning to start a new one once I get a couple more updates stashed; should I just post all already published updates at once, or do I just start like nothing happened and post them as if they were regular updates?

LPzone exists. Its UI is a crime and every few months when I look at it I either saw lps crossposted from here or stuff that didn't interest me but it exists.

Baldurk and the lparchive is probably one of the few things that keeps this place relevant. If he would be fine with using his hardware and data offsite it would be a big step in enabling an exodus. But yeah, the infinite scrolling I was bundling in with the criminal UI. I think I only ever opened on thread, but just looking at the main forums gives you enough indication of something fundamentally wrong.

There are definitely more active parts of this forum than Let's Play, but yeah this is the place that's likely the hardest to replace in the way it exists at least while retaining any kind of decently-sized community. Nothing to it but to wait and see now I suppose, fingers crossed for a solution that replaces the captain but keeps the ship sailing.

I just finished copying the raw text (because I made edits to the final versions not in my original word documents) of my active Disco Elysium LP and am about to move on to P5R in case we are forced to abandon this place. I don't know if I'll even have the ability to post it again but I'd like to have that security.

There is some backstage stuff going on where some mods are trying to resolve this situation in some way that lets us preserve the forum while getting Lowtax out of the picture. I feel like there's no real harm in just hanging tight for a few days and seeing how the situation develops. I think it's important we make sure we take every effort to keep the community together as much as possible, lest we go the way of the LP Zone.

See how this thread is 95 pages long and how it sort of ~16 pagedown presses from bottom to top? That's not a thing at lpzone, one unending page that you reach the bottom and it loads more. And this is 16 "pages" of short texts, not an SSLP where you're talking 16 "pages" per update.

LPZone is apparently dead as poo poo. Most LP threads only have the OP chain posting updates. Also Discourse is the worst possible forums architecture to use for screenshot LPs because of infinite scroll. Even the people that started the site have largely abandoned it in favor of streaming or other stuff.

I like to believe I do good work. I put a lot of effort into my LPs, and I think that it shows. That said, I can't afford to host my SSLPs myself, and I don't think I have enough of a built-in audience to really get away with setting up a Patreon even if I didn't have to solve hosting. The Dark Id managed to make it work, and I'm glad for him, but he's probably the most well-known SSLPer around and he's been doing this like, three times longer than I have. I'm not ragging on TDI, love that guy and love his work, but I hope we can put SA back in our own hands or at least find a new forum (hopefully one that uses BBcode, heh) because I'm pretty much doing this entirely because I like making jokes and I get the good brain chemicals when people say nice things to me on the internet, and while I'd love to be able to have people sending me tips like that I don't know that it's a viable solution for myself or anyone else. I also really just like the format of forum discussions, and I'd hate to lose that. I think SSLPs might just kind of die if they don't have a proper home, and that would be a real shame.

For what it's worth, seems there's a few LP subforum folk looking to make an alternative, but it'd require most of us on board to work (and to, y'know, not be terrible for SSLPs like LPzone). It's something to keep an eye on while keeping a close eye on what happens here. Either way, the community is going to be fractured especially if too many alternatives get recommended. That'll be the death of SSLP.

Even in the absence of a mass solution, there's plenty of free markup posts plus comments hosting, and I'm pretty sure patreon even lets you make an account and public posts with no patreons. I'm probably going to at least investigate that one myself.
