They Are Billions is great but do not ever, under any circumstances, consider playing the campaign. It's just bad and pointless.

HerpicleOmnicron5 posted:

I can offer opinions on these! They are Billions is very good, except for one fatal flaw: There's no failure spiral. There's a failure cliff edge. If you make one tiny error, everything falls apart immediately. No room for recovery.

World of Horror has a great aesthetic, but the game itself is just okay. Worth it for the aesthetic alone though!

Raging Loop is really fun. I'll keep things vague, but I'll spoiler tag it if you want to be totally blind, but be warned there are some issues and that's what I'm discussing in the tags. The actual game of werewolf is extremely short and there's no need to go all in on trying to deduce who it might be. The actual Werewolf side is as disappointing as a real game of Werewolf.

Viscera isn't like House Flipper. It's just purely procedural work, whereas Flipper has a bit of creativity? It's just cleaning things. I'd say maybe consider Landlord's Super if you want something more House Flipper-esque? That's by the devs of Jalopy, and it's an 80s Britain house flipper. Not very content rich at the moment though. Also consider that new Barn Finders game.

Bannerlord is good! It's been good since launch. It's got a lot of problems though.

Freeman is a bit all over the place. Think the jank of Mount and Blade turned up to 11, and throw in gun porn. If you're looking for a game like that, I recommend Starsector, which isn't on Steam. It's Bannerlord/Freeman but in space, top down, and absolutely gorgeous.

Magic 2014 is fun as heck.

Please share what Gujian 3 is like, I've gotten really into some of these Chinese indie games. A recommendation for Banner of the Maid, by the way. That's a turn based Fire Emblem style game set in Napoleonic times, but you're Napoleon's sister who has Joan of Arc powers?

Excellent, thank you! I'll report back on things --- assuming they get good discounts, assuming this forum doesn't die overnight, etc. God I cannot wait for tomorrow.

How did this smug dummkopf ever make general?

It's probably the very heavy handed "We reject policies of social dominance, Neo-liberalism, patriarchy, the gender binary, white supremacy, and other social ills espoused by capitalism." which, ok, while I agree with most of that (though isn't neo-liberalism just libertarianism?) it's a bit much for a first impression? Like it's trying a bit hard.

il serpente cosmico posted:

That explains it. It's frontloading all of the site's politics because it originates from the politics subforum. I'm a fan of being against all those things don't get me wrong, but I'd rather have a place that's "We're here to talk about games and have fun! Nazis get hosed!" instead of "if you talk about capitalism being even slightly ok you get banned". Especially when it's very America-centric.

I haven't played it but I heard it's just badly designed and was added as an afterthought because they said they would as a stretch goal or something. The skirmish mode is the real meat of the game. That said, as someone who plays RTS games poorly because I always have a tendency to build a base and do nothing else, this game was perfect for a dozen or so hours for me.

Badly designed.
There are three mission types, regular base-building ones, swarm/defense missions, and commando missions where you take a hero unit and some backup through some kind of level.
The commando missions are boring for a pretty simple reason: the combat in this game is built around pushing only as far as you can without overextending. Combat is not inherently fun or interesting; you're watching your dudes shoot zombies that run at them mindlessly. It's what goes into the decisions on whether to take on that infected village now or leave extra troops in another part of the map that make the combat part interesting, and none of that comes into play in these campaign missions.
The base-building missions are bad because you have to unlock even very basic buildings. There are some unique elements to the maps but still, it's essentially "Play a regular sandbox game but worse.".
The swarm missions let you spend points to buy defensive structures and troops and then you need to survive. Those are okay but ultimately just make a subset of the base-building game into a mission type.

I don't think the campaign was an afterthought. There are a lot of assets and unique systems created for it, and its a fairly sizable campaign (I think; I didn't play through all of it). It's just poorly thought out and honestly doesn't even have a reason to exist in this game.

It'll probably be some kind of overly complicated, but completely lame flash game, that won't work properly for the first 48 hours. I'll be astonished, if I end up buying a single title from this sale.

Did you play it (Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark) before the DLC? I just started a playthrough with the DLC but haven't gotten to anything DLC-related yet.
But the base game is good. A lot of things are implemented very smoothly - the job XP system, items (refresh each battle), characters going down in battle (temporary stat loss) etc.
You need to grind, but not too much. The maps are good, a bit bigger on average than in FFT and many other FFT-inspired games.
The story is nothing special but the moment-to-moment writing is fairly good for a game like this, just probably won't grip you the way FFT can.

I haven't got the base game of Fell Seal yet, so I think I'll try that before getting the DLC, which looks like it adds mostly optional content. There's no difference in price between getting the base and DLC separately or buying them in one bundle.

My only understanding of neoliberalism comes from a cursory google search which just showed a bunch of libertarian talking points. The post mentions the first, and I said aren’t they both the same, then Quark said it was bad and I agreed.

The derail is happening because of that Bread+Roses website.

Memoria is a sequel to The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav, but you won't be lost if you haven't played that one. You alternate between two main characters: a man named Geron, who's trying to uncurse his fairy girlfriend Nuri who got turned into a crow in the last game, and a woman named Sadja, who is trying to stop some terrible demon war ages in the past. I liked it. Sadja is badass and there are some good writing twists.
