Evening comrades. Hoping the forums can continue in a non-lowtax form. But if not then I just want to day this thread and it's predecessors back to LF have been incredibly helpful in my political education and transition from confused-as-to-why-things-are-so-bad liberal to angry socialist. Can't remember exactly how I found the forums but the first thread I remember was the one that involving bacon and the phrase 'repent bitch, repent ' I haven't posted often and I've mostly posted badly but thanks to all the effortposters. I'm on the discord but do find it harder to keep up, plus it's not really suited to long posts If the worst happens and we lose this space, hopefully the community can come together elsewhere. https://youtu.be/tCS7ReJphu4

I hope this dead forum isn't dying for good but I just wanted to add I've lurked here since the LF days and want to credit LF and UKMT for kindling my class consciousness as an ignorant valleys boy. I took up the socially useful profession of legal aid lawyer 9 years ago (as socially useful as a lawyer can be) and have helped lots of working class people and hosed over lots of landlords, including making at least 2 cry in court, so thanks UKMT!

I hope this forum stays up. Even though I don't post much, I do like to read everyone's opinions, and I've learned a lot. But if it doesn't, I'd like to see another similar forum to talk. What's the Bread and Roses site like? I can't read the threads unless I register.

I've probably spent about 10 hours on it (considerably more than all of the council house posts combined*) and have only got a few usable pages. Might bail on it and go for the other one about secret buildings in London if only because it features me getting a head injury, which I can try and spin into a Bond-esque story of glamour and intrigue rather than what it actually was, me paying a loving numpty who can't look where he's going. * Seriously as long as they were, they probably only took about an hour of actual typing with another hour of checking and editing - if I have one actual talent it's that I can smack out a thousand words an hour on something I only learned about 15 minutes ago. Obviously it's a bit slower when I do it for work because I have to properly reference and index stuff but even then I can generally get stuff done in a morning that I've quoted two weeks for. I genuinely wanted to be a journalist when I was at school, but then I met some actual journalists (and more importantly saw the difference between the information they were given and the output that appeared in the paper) and realised I'd rather go on the dole.

I’d be surprised if SA completely collapsed. This kind of thing has happened to forums plenty of times before, and they usually get through it in one form or another. That said, if the end really is near, I will say that this forum, and this thread in particular, have been very important to me. Things have actually finally been improving for me a little in the past year or so, but for large amounts of the time since I joined in 2012 this has been my primary, sometimes only, form of socialising. So thanks to everyone for helping me in that time. Also, that Jess Phillips has her own logo on that video. Just imagine being that narcissistic.

This account is pretty new but I've been here for ages, I used to live on these forums. Not that I ever did anything really but shitpost and hang out in the obscure corners, pretty much the places where the... ehhh... forums culture didn't intrude so much, do the photoshop fridays and so on. Then it got too toxic a few years ago but it had been getting better of late, possibly as people grew up a bit. Which most people not currently in exile from the forums did. Was glad to come back on as myself and hang here even though I have huge gaps in my political knowledge, because you were always great at cutting through the bullshit and in return I could post poo poo puns. I'll miss it if it goes, but hopefully the admin coup succeeds! Besides, I feel like we established a long while ago the correct flavour of Monster Munch and it doesn't really need relitigating forever.

I genuinely believe this thread has quietly been extremely influential in the development of the UK Left over the past decade or so and genuinely feels like one of the few 'safe spaces' where people can be unapologetically left-wing without constantly having to look over their shoulder or worry about getting dogpiled by idiots. As we're seeing today, the readership of this thread is much larger than it first appears, and just through existing and maintaining a consistent level of quality posts throughout the years its succeeded in radicalizing a ton of people to left wing causes and helped shape the socialist agenda in its own way. I've seen a ton of memes and bits of lingo that originated here filter out into the wider internet; pretty much every prominent leftist podcast I listen to (Praxis, Trash future, Reel Politik, WDTATW) features goon alumni too. A ton of left twitter shitposters seems to take their cues from the SA house style too, and even though this place rarely gets mentioned out in the wild I feel like it's a lot more well-known amongst online leftists than it appears at a glance. It's been a real treasure trove of knowledge for a lot of people and one of the best kept secrets on the left and I'm going to be really upset if it all ends up going away forever. I've literally spent half of my life on these boards, SA is just as much of a home to me as any physical place I've ever lived, and goons are like my neighbours who I've shared a hometown with for so many years. Even if we don't know or interact with eachother personally, we all share the culture and upbringing and the thought of losing such a rich and well-defined community in the blink of an eye bc of some drama none of us had anything to with loving sucks. I'll really miss this place and I probably won't stop coming no here until the lights finally go out for good. I know there's a discord server being set up, but I was wondering if people wanted to post their twitter handles here to so we can stay in touch? It seems like long-term the future of this community probably resides in twitter shitposting, and it'd be nice to finally figure out how many of my longstanding mutuals have secretly been ukmters the entire time. Maybe someone could try making a list so it's easier to follow people en mass? Idk. Anyway my handle is @oldirtysanders, see you guys on the other side! Love this thread and these forums (for the most part), they've been a part of my life for the past 13 years. Hope they don't get deleted, it will be really difficult to follow all of my favourite sub-communities from here. Started lurking SA when I was a teenager, went through a phase of shitposting on SASS. I was there when that went down, that was more sudden than this. Would've been 2008/9ish I think. Kept lurking SA and didn't buy an account until the Minecraft thread was locked on Halloween in 2010. I started reading the actual UKMT, when it was one big thread before you got forced to make them monthly and have been lurking pretty diligently ever since. I checked my Awful App bookmarks and the oldest on I have is a 2014 thread. SASS was a horrible right wing forum and although I never agreed with the worst of what they said I did laugh at the edgy humour and I came (back) to SA with some very bad opinions. The UKMT has been the most educational piece of media I have consumed over the last decade. The amount of effort, goodwill and thought that goes into most of the posts in this thread is amazing. Which is not to say that the jokers and the shitposters aren't doing their bit. Finally, I just want to particular thanks to: Guavanaut - you're the best, your puns/dad jokes are the best and obviously making the thread every month. I wish you were my dad Godamnedtwisto - please can you send me the link for your blog, you have to if this place dies. Your posts are great, thanks for the effort and all the history Owlfancier - I echo what other people have said recently, you've been a standout poster of the last year or so. Very clear posting and you're Correct as hell Jaeluni A - great posts, your life sounds fascinating and you just seem like a really nice person Coohoolin - mate you're posting in those oldest threads on my bookmarks, respect for sticking around and putting yourself out there Baka Kaba - the app, you're a G Learnincurve - I miss when you used to post more, you're sincerely a courageous and inspiring person Ms Adequate - just fun, so much love for you Josef Bugman - you're a good person, look after yourself mate Ronya - thank you for never giving up lol, long posts but majority of those I understood were interesting Everybody else is great too, too many others to mention. Well, this sucks. I rarely post as I never feel that I have anything worthwhile to add, but I have religiously read UKMT since 2010 or so, and this thread did wonders for opening my eyes to real left wing views. I've always voted Labour, but growing up socialism and unions etc were seen as dirty words - and I credit this thread and its predecessors for helping me to express my opinions to others, and I finally joined the party to support Corbyn. So I may not participate here much at all, but I have always read keenly, and the influence this thread has had on me means that I've spread those sorts of thoughts further in my social circle and community. SA in general has been a real wealth of knowledge - it's gutting that the community as a whole will inevitably fracture; as everyone has said, what's really special about this place is that you can follow so many niche hobbies and find posters who are interested. And the app really elevated it into being a 'must visit' site whenever you had a free moment.

I don't read the forums nearly as much as I used to, but I check in on this thread regularly. It's a full of good people with good opinions, and hell if the forums disappear then hopefully the podcast will continue. Cheers folks.
