This case of an intraperitoneal zucchini is unusual, and does raise questions as to how hard one has to push a blunt vegetable to perforate the rectum.

Fart Car '97 posted:

We used them in large scale batching of cocktails a lot l and the biggest issue is the "top-down" readings are just really awkward to judge where the meniscus is, so I would use the side-read measurements since they were more accurate, which at that point is defeating the point

This is true... but I don't use them for anything that requires extremely precise measurement.

All the glass measuring cups with painted measurements that I've used have been inaccurate up to about 10%

I would sometimes buy two or three, test them at home and then return the bad ones

Is there one that anyone has tested and verified to be accurate?

They're great as long as you're not measuring something thick like honey or peanut butter since the contours make it hard to fit a spatula in there

Do they have American cup/oz measurements on them though? I don’t want have to eyeball 237 ml.

Any good deals on breville toaster ovens (or a currently recommended model)? My apartment is 90F+ all the time now and I'm afraid to turn on the oven. Something big enough to do a half dozen cookies, maybe a small bit of bread, broil some fish, etc.

e; I have a DeWalt one that my brother gave me 3-4 years ago that has been sitting on top of cabinets ever since. Going to try to clean it and see if it still works before necessarily dropping $$$ on a new one. Still interested in if there is a new model or a good deal that operates well as I believe this one wasn't much of anything and is quite small.

If you need that kind of precision, you really ought to be using your digital kitchen scale and measuring by mass.

Made me curious so I checked mine best I could: Oxo, Starbucks beaker (from a gift set years ago), and Karter beaker all the same. Pampered Chef top down was light, the Pyrex was heavy and the most off. I could bust out a scale, probably won't bother.

Are double gas ovens still a thing? I'm looking at whirlpool's web-site, and they seem to only have double electric or convention. I need to replace my double wall gas oven, but I'm not sure where to start. If I were to switch to a convection oven instead, is the process going to be fairly easy? I don't know anything about oven installation.

I have been looking at a lot of appliances for my kitchen remodel, so I am pretty familiar with a lot of the US sites at this point. Appliance Connection has a lot of different brands of everything, and they only have six models available in gas double wall ovens, and all are the same brand. The cheapest is $9299 and the most expensive is $10799. The brand is American Range. I tried a couple other sites and I didn't find any others. You would probably have better luck getting a gas range with a double oven at that price. There are single gas wall ovens available though.

A double wall gas oven has to be the least requested type. Why pay a premium for the least efficient oven type?

Ugh I really wish my had house had a gas line, I despise my electric range stove top

I'm not spending that much on an oven. What are my options then? I already have a gas range, so I don't need an oven with a range on top.

Is it an easy process to disconnect the gas oven and install a convection one instead? I imagine I'd have to call a specialist to cap off the gas line?

You are going to need an electrician to install a 220 connection if there isn't one there and a plumber can probably cap gas line or the gas company I imagine has a service to come cap it. The electrician won't be cheap

It is going to depend on your local codes if you need a permit or not to cap off the gas line. If the valve isn't buried behind the stove and is in good shape, you might consider just closing off the valve and removing the hose. Otherwise it's easy with some gas eater plumer's tape, a cap of the correct size and material (assuming this is either an iron or galvanized threaded pipe) and a pip wrench.

If you are in the US you will nee a 220 volt, 50 amp electrical service. If not, then I don't know. I think the Brits use 240 for all of their plight ins.

One thing you might think about is installing 2 single gas wall ovens.

Was your last whisk different? I think none of them are stainless steel which is why they aren't dishwasher safe.

Huh well my last whisk didn't get all nasty...but I never washed it with the dishwasher. Going by the reviews online it seemed like a recent drop in quality.

The original whisk that came with my KA like 8 years ago gets the grey/black residue that rubs off and gets everywhere if you put it in the dishwasher.

I’d bet that it’s just the same, and you’ll be fine to buy one as long as you keep hand washing.

Yeah, I bought enameled dough hook and beater so I could dishwash. The whisk I just hand wash and dry.

The enameled ones have a tendency for the coating to crack off and go into your food.
I tried asking kitchenaid about it years ago their response was:shrug:

I stuck to the plain ones and hand wash them

What are you putting in your dough?

But yeah, gotta actually inspect them time to time.

Normal stuff just cookie dough, cake batters, bread doughs until I got a Bosch Universal.

Its happened to my mom's dough hook and paddle too if you Google for kitchenaid coating flaking off you'll find lots of people complaining about it and once it starts happening there's nothing you can do to stop it but quit using it.

I am long since sold on hand-washing knives. I am willing to hand-wash my cutting boards. I don't care about hand-washing my dough hook or my silicone-edge beater. A whisk is the sort of thing that I really want to put in a dishwasher, though. Too fiddly. I resent the hell out of this development.

First off, NEVER WASH YOUR KNIVES IN A DISHWASHER! The detergent is a micro abrasive that is literally dulling your knives. I was joking.

As for washing whisks, it's easy peasy to have a big bowl of soapy water and get this, you can whisk it clean!

I keep cheaper knives around that I can put in the dishwasher for most tasks and break out the nice ones for when I am doing heavy cooking.
