I don't think that makes me antivaxx, I'm up to date on all of my immunizations and I get a flu shot literally every year and would happily take the coronavirus vaccine if there was actual scientific backing for it.

Trump doesn’t have a private special vaccine. Warp Speed is just a monetary investment in the Oxford/AZ vaccine.

Didn't realize that you were talking about Astrazenica and was laughing at the idea that anything, much less a vaccine, could fix Arizona.

Ok, it's that big a thing it is specifically not allowed? Here people just use blow-up boats. But I guess our rivers are different and most are not suitable for tubing.

Yeah it's a pretty big deal. Large crowds of people get very drunk and float in the hot texas sun in a chilly river for 4-6 hours. So very much fun, but also a great way to get roni'ed up.

I'm sad I'm going to miss it, you have to go at least once a summer or it doesn't feel like summer.

Tubing is specifically on very calm water that's not too deep. We also have rafting but it's usually faster/more rocky/more rapids/less drinking. If you go tubing when it's not too crowded (and it's not usually as crowded as that pic), it's one of the best ways to spend your time on earth.

We had a very relaxed "lockdown" here in Switzerland, but they ended up having to close the parks because people were just incapable of keeping their distance from each other. The idea behind distancing measures is that people from different households won't come into contact and so the virus can't spread. But people specifically meet friends that they don't live with in parks (or on a river) and spend a good amount of time with them rationalising it with "but we're outside so it's OK". For tubing, people are probably going to ride down to the river together in a car, and there are usually lots of people jammed together at the entry and exit points, so there are plenty of places where you can't maintain that distance.

edit: I fogot that a lot of rental places bus you from the store to the entry point like in that video... yikes

I don't understand tubing as I can't swim. Aren't you just going to get your rear end wet?

Also, the last time I was on a beach I was like 6 and the really thick seaweed freaked me the gently caress out so I got out of the water quick. To be fair, it still freaks me out.

Not as much as November 2020 does though because I'm really sure that we're gonna go straight into 2021 with a LOT of COVID cases because people were forced to go out to vote instead of staying inside and doing a mail-in ballot.

You're overthinking it. The point is to sit and chill and drink a lot of beer with your friends. The wet rear end keeps you cool in the hot sun. Totally worth killing a bunch of olds for.

On pharma companies: do not trust them. The regulations are toothless and inadequate, the culture is one of lying, misleading, withholding information, bribery, misleading marketing, and generally skirting the edges of what is technically legal but completely immoral and unscientific. there is a very good book on the subject called Bad Pharma by Ben Goldacre which should be required reading which reveals the routine everyday misleading information and bad behaviour these companies universally engage in. It's absolutely shocking in how utterly ubiquitous it is. It's on Audible if anyone has that, here is a TED talk (a good non bullshit one, Ben Goldacre is solid) that covers a fraction of itc

As many others have said, it's just a party on water and a tour of some nature (you float for a couple hours. ) You can always drop into the water to cool off then hop back into your tube.

Being in a river is great on a hot day. Surface water on lakes warms up but rivers stay nice and cool. Here's how we do in Bern:

Almost nobody uses tubes, most people use some kind of a beach ball to hold on to or just put a bunch of air in your drybag. You can also take an inflatable boat on the train and pump it up where you get in and then just float home and bring it back on the bus, it's fantastic when it's hot!

Empties in a mesh container or back in the cooler. You are in nature, you just pee.

To be clear, I've never been to a float that was that crowded. Usually on a good day it's your flotilla of friends occasionally encountering others but also being off on your own a bit.
