Ah yes, I knew I remembered him from a truly garbage take in the past but I couldn't remember what it was. And yes, OSR people love to wheel out the creator's sexuality to defend that module. I mean, even if you go 'fine, I guess the weird sex parts of the module get a pass because the creator's bisexual' you're still left with the racism.

I actually read LotFP to see what all the fuss was about - I saw someone twitter having a meltdown over 'the greatest RPG of all time' going away because people were mean to Zak and I got curious. It's incredibly bad in general, but there's full color, full page art in the book of a woman being gangraped to death and non-full color art of an inflated woman being raped inside-out while she's being cooked alive and people chew off her breasts. That should tell you everything you need to know about it. They also seem to love art of 'things your character cannot possibly do'. A page away from a rant about how you can't use a weapon and cast a spell there's art of someone's self-insert doing just that.

I took a quick look at Rients’ blog, linked from his twitter profile. Just last year, a few posts back in the timeline is a handwringing defense of Zak, with nearly 400 comments on it, and Zak on full Debate Me mode within. So yeah, Rients’ opinion isn’t worth much.

Martin Ericsson is the man who leveraged friends and industry connections to convince Paradox to buy out the White Wolf brand from CCP and then put him in charge so that he could create a new edition of vampire that's more in line with what he liked when he was younger. The tradgaming equivilent of a Coke Employee convincing his friend at Pepsi to buy coke out then put him in charges so that he can make New Coke again. he then proceeded to show his entire rear end and spin a narrative that he was somehow the true inheritor of Mark Rein*Hagen's vision, and that Vampire basically did not exist from 2003 until he was put in charge and was in the hands of "pussies" who didn't want to publish a 9/11 supplement. He hired Pantshitter to write a really really really bad visual novel set in the Vampire universe (and then made a Blogpost saying that all the people who accused him of sexual harassment were liars), created a LARP with such wonderful taglines as "Don't come if you plan on saying no", and republished an old Vampire fiction anthology with stories written by a child rapist while adding a new story written by himself with the line "Stirring my groinsblood to full rear end-rape stiffness." He was finally ousted from the company after causing a real loving international incident with a book that claimed that the leader of Chechnya was a secret ISIS vampire who's actual real world pogrom against gay people was just a cover for him and all his other ISIS vampire friends to feed from an underclass. Justin Achilli is the man who ran the White Wolf/Onyx Path Vampire lines from 1997 until now, and the man who wrote New York By Night (which was published November of 2001) with a foreword indicating that to make a game capitalizing on the deaths of 9/11 would be crass and terrible. So he is literally the man who made Vampire the game that Ericsson claims to love, not Mark Rein*hagen. He's just been hired to steer the vanity project that Martin got fired from for being a pile of garbage that likes to dress like Dracula.

What's funny about that is Justin absolutely had his moments of being young and edgy and tryhard (but it was twenty years ago, so understandable) while working on Vampire but even then he knew trying to make 9/11 supernatural was a bad idea in a terrible myriad of dumb ways.
