Last weekend, I moved to a new apartment that allows pets. Today I visited my local humane society shelter and came back with someone special.

Please say hello to Sakura! She is a 3 year old Siamese, and she is a polydactyl (extra toes). She is also very sweet and she has settled in remarkably quickly. After just two hours she started climbing up on the sofa and snuggling up next to me. Barely been hiding at all.

My cat isn't eating. We are working with the vet to try to find a solution here but just wanted to ask about a specific thing see if anyone has any ideas.

He is definitely hungry, that much I can tell. When he does want to try to eat something (such as a treat), he will pick it up and try to bite it then it drops out of his mouth and he wants nothing to do with it anymore. This is the same with hard or soft foods. Vet said his teeth look fine, I mean it could be tooth pain but I am not sure. Gonna syringe feed him to get food in him but would love to hear any ideas on the dropping food if anyone has any input.

Our cat has bad teeth and this is what she acts like when she needs her teeth or gums attended to. If you haven't already, see a cat-specialist vet for help. (There are also dentist vets but a cat specialist will be cheaper and probably do just fine diagnosing and treating.)

The microfiber slipcover we got has cut down on cat scratches significantly. Find a texture your cat doesn't like and try to go with that - they tend to like the "fun" woven styles a lot, I've noticed.

My fur son needs to play four hours / day or he wrecks everything around him including my feet or his own dumb tail. Please send help in the form of automated cat toys, my arms are sore from waving around toys all drat day. I have three he’s too intimidated by due to size to use reliably or is too slow to make him really care.

Also, a 8 week old kitten crying all night for its mom or littermates its first night is hopefully normal and not too traumatic. The mom didn’t seem to protest when we picked up our newest at least.

Our kittens did batter it to death within days, so the butterfly now spins sadly around the ground. Order spares if your cat is a destructor.

I have one of those. He’s not into it much. He finally started batting at the Hexabug toy I have. We have a mountain of various toys and while it was fine for the adults we’ve had kittens seem far harder to keep amused for their length of play. I’m about to buy a pack of ostrich feather dusters because they’re cheaper than cat wands that have far less feathers.

I've never had much luck with automated toys. It usually takes less than 10 hours over several days for a cat to figure out the toy and then scorn it forever. Often Pip won't even play with them, she'll just sit and watch them for a little while and then wander off.

The most successful "automated" toy I ever had was a wall mounted cat dancer. https://www.amazon.com/CAT-DANCER-252-Cat-Toy/dp/B0784VLRZV It doesn't move by itself, but it will move a little bit in a breeze, and once the cat hits it continues to move for a while. In a high traffic hallway just humans walking by would set it moving enough to get the kitties interested.

My cat got out Monday and I’ve been searching and putting up flyers and posters, Facebook and Nextdoor and PawBoost, and I even bought a game camera to try and find her. She might be down in the storm drains with the rest of the community cats and I did catch a video of a black cat with a short coat, but I think it’s a male. The local county animal control doesn’t take in stray cats and neither does Pawmetto Lifeline, so her microchip is almost useless. I’m going out tonight to see if I can trap the cat I saw on video but I don’t know what else to do.

Is your cat the type that comes running with treats? You could always go shake a treat jar and hope you get the right cat. Does she have a collar with a tag? Always a chance it won't breakaway and someone will find her that way and give you a call

But seriously good luck and let us know if you find her!

My Furry Idiot has now decided to try biting me when I pick her up and she doesn't want to be picked up. Not hard, very gently, but I hope to dissuade her from doing that because I would really rather not having any biting at all.

I ordered a harness and leash off Amazon. Tried the harness on her, she didn't seem bothered at all. It was hilarious, actually, she's completely unfazed by the harness but can't figure out how to move normally with it. We all remarked it's like a strait jacket, she staggers around awkwardly.

I enjoy lovingly torturing My Furry Idiot.

Meet Hondo, a little kitten I found under my car a few days ago. The vet estimates him to be about 6 weeks old. He's healthy and has been treated for the expected fleas and worms. We're keeping him separated from the other house kitties until he has all his tests and shots.

He loves sleeping in my armpit and under my chin. He is totally gonna be a snuggler.

Is this the thread for cat advice?

We have an old lazy boy and a young rear end in a top hat boy. The younger one will. not. stop. messing with the old guy. It's definitely play, not aggression, and the old guy is kind of into it for like three minutes then it's just the little guy chasing him around the house biting and jumping on him. Every day just ends up with separating the two in different parts of the house once the older fellow starts showing signs of distress.

How do you discourage this sort of thing? We have all the aggression stopping precautions like multiple litter boxes and food sources but like I said I don't think it's really aggressive behavior. We even tried those scam pheromone diffusers which predictably did nothing.

Young cat has lots of energy and wants to play. If old cat isn't down to play as much as young cat, you need to either play with young cat yourself to tire him out or find him some kind of toys he can use to entertain himself with.

Does the older cat have a place he can go to and lurk away from the younger cat? If he has a safe space to retreat to when young cat is bothering him you might not have to separate them yourself.

Thanks for the advice! Yes more play would be a good idea I think.

The old guy kind of has a few little spots to retreat to, like dining room chairs but the young one can still mess with him a little and it's more "I can defend myself here" rather than "I am safe here". What would you suggest as a good retreat spot we could set up?

I would find a kitten only formula with small pieces and alternate with a wet food also only for kittens. I haven’t kittened in a while but with this new one our vet told us to get it used to wet now in case it has issues eating dry food in adulthood. Chewy has pretty good prices.

The shelter told us he was around 8 weeks old, but the vet thinks he's around 4 months old! So no one knows exactly how old he is. It's my first kitten, so it's all new to me. He's great! Just a little ball of energy that likes to play and cuddle (and sleep, of course).

I'm going to lean closer to your vets age guess than the shelter. If his eyes aren't blue, he's definitely over ~10 weeks or so, as all kittens have blue-ish eyes until the color starts to come in starting at around 4 weeks and ending at 10ish weeks. It's hard to define how I know that this cat is closer to 12-16 weeks, but having adopted one at 12 weeks, and having a family member adopt one at 8 weeks (not a sketchy kitten mill situation, abandoned litter situation don't worry), he looks like a tiny cat, not a large kitten. That switchover is right around 12 weeks or so so I'd put him there, not at 8 weeks.

edit: chart only goes to 10 weeks but you get the idea

Back on the butterfly toy, my silly kitten seems to have just eaten a piece that had been ripped off - the very thin plastic foil covering one of the wings. Is this going to cause problems, or will it just pass through? It's extremely thin and not sharp.

Kittens sleep for up to 20 hours / day they say. You can tire them out with exercise they say. Lies. I can hardly leave the house or eat a meal because one of my boys barely ever stops playing, eating, or demanding to eat anything in front of me. He sleeps maybe 12 hours / day we've counted and I'm literally playing with him for 4 hours. Trying to tire him out by playing more with him just makes him hungrier which means more energy to play (he's less than 3 lbs but puts away 11 oz of food / day, :wtc:).

Seems so. But it's only the colourful film layer, its actual volume is less than a pea. I'm not sure how/why she did it, she dragged it off and gobbled it before I could do anything.

I called the vet, who said "should have called sooner, we could have ejected it from the front end, now you'll have to wait for it to come out the back, or bring her in if she stops eating/drinking/pooping"

Next time I shall overreact rather than underreact :(

Since Rexie's abdomen gets about every scan possible on an annual basis, I know a typical adult cat's intestine is about 12mm in diameter. Kittens, obviously, are smaller.

My worry would be not the total volume, but the surface area. Something wide that doesn't break down could cause a blockage. You're going to need to watch her like a hawk to make sure it passes - keep a log of when you notice her eating/drinking/pooping and check the poop for blood or anything else irregular.

Having a bit of an issue over here, hoping to find some clarity.

my friend and her mom adopted some kittens that had been left in a box that an acquaintance found.

3 total, she took 1 boy and her mom took 2 girls

I don't know how old, but I'd guess 6-8 weeks.

all 3 were normal before they adopted them

They've had them for 3-4 days

the boy is not active and has been sleeping nonstop and refuses to eat. one of the sisters is doing the same thing. He was taken to the vet and they said his intestines are swollen, and they don't know why. all of his tests were normal.
She's feeding him chicken baby food once an hour (she sent a video, she uses a teaspoon and gently scoops a little on the roof of his mouth, he chews it up then swallows) She says it's the only thing he doesn't puke up (i'm unsure of what other food has been tried)

he hasn't puked today which is a new milestone.

I really want to help lil buddy out and put her mind at ease but I've honestly never encountered anything like this before.

I love my cat so much, she's adorable and so easy. Eats anything, can be picked up anytime, bites softly.

Unfortunately, my partner taught her to wrestle with the broom brush, and reinforces it with daily broom wrestling sessions. Now I can't sweep up the dirt she pulls from my flower pots without fending of a sweet kitty cat.
She also turns on the electric stove with her little feet, guess I shouldn't have got a touch screen.
