didn't catch his name but there was some fucko on TWAO saying that the herd immunity plan was fine actually and saying that the BBC using total covid cases in headlines was scaremongering because countries like the USA have bigger populations than ours so they should be using infection rates instead completely loving ignoring that the USA's infection rate is sky high and getting higher every day

The worst thing about Starkey's comments in 2011 is that they were a big deal, people were talking about that in the papers and so on, it definitely wasn't overlooked, and then six months later or so he was back on telly doing history programmes again. I could not believe that he hadn't destroyed his career, but obviously I should have done.

Unite seems like one of the better major unions, their leadership was pretty well supportive of Corbyn albeit with a brexity streak I think, if that's a problem for you. Also they weren't part of the labour office sabotage and their leadership has not recently been revealed to be full of sex offenders, so there's that.

If you join unite (or another associated union) you can also sign up for affiliate membership to the Labour party which essentially means you get voting rights etc without having to send them any money

Unite are decent at the national/political level, but your experience in your workplace will depend 100% on your reps - I was a Unite rep at my last employer, it added easily 5 or more hours a week onto my workload (it was an unbelievably toxic workplace mind you), and I got very little help from the other reps because they were too afraid of upsetting HR (the loving cops of work). Our upstream contact at Unite was mostly useless and had to be forced with threats of violence to loving stay on topic and not start meandering tales of the eighties or whatever. Lovely person to have a drink with, gently caress all help when someone is facing the sack. I'd definitely encourage you to join - solidarity is important - and if you have some fight in you then become a rep, it can be very rewarding. Not quite as rewarding as quitting the loving labour party but still, take it where you can in hellworld.

I'm in Unite - Community section (as I don't have a workplace). Costs me £2.38 per month. Seems you don't always get to vote in things - there were some ballots in the last few weeks, a friend was standing, but I didn't get a vote. I'm not sure of the whys and wherefores and haven't had enough incentive to bother to look into it yet. In other news: I've clicked why Home Bargains doesn't sell The Sun, despite selling a full range of red tops + i paper: founded in Liverpool.
