I had the privilege of hanging out with some HK protesters at a bar in Causeway Bay back in Dec 2019. A few spoke solid English and were very geopolitically aware, and were basically willing to stake their upcoming adulthood on keeping their hometown as democratic as possible. Hopefully they're doing okay cause they embodied democratic ideals way more than any westerner I've ever met.

I've read extensive, eye-watering SWCC apologetics and I've not found it persuasive. The remaining Maoist elements don't buy it either and are generally repressed or disappeared. Some of them used to meet or hide in Hong Kong. Not anymore I'm guessing.
