Has anyone been able to find a source for actual N95 masks lately, particularly in California? I live in a fire-prone area of California, and for the last few years, having a supply of N95s has been a necessity just for basic “being outside without my lung function collapsing” purposes from about August on. With fire season fast approaching, and my house in need of a lot of repairs that I’m going to have to do myself before it rains again, I’ve been looking around for a supply and coming up empty-handed. I’d even happily take the ones with the valve, because I’m not going to be using them around other people, I just need to be able to breathe while up on my roof.

KN95 is almost the same as N95, the specs are nearly identical but KN95 is not NOISH approved. It's been approved due to the pandemic for emergency use and they're basically all you can get so you may as well: https://www.fda.gov/medical-devices...vid-19-pandemic Since staples is out I'd buy from Office Depot: https://www.officedepot.com/catalog/search.do?Ntt=kn95 If they run out there's some in stock at Monoprice: https://www.monoprice.com/search/index?keyword=kn95

The little carbon filter doesn't do much besides make it harder to breath, or has a plastic bin that bumps again your mouth. Friends who bought those type of masks stopped using them and just went with n95, surgical, it home made ones.

I bought a two pack of KN95s at the gas station. They are pretty good and have a one way valve for easier and cooler breathing. You don't get the tight seal like with an N95 respirator, but that is probably because of the double head bands. Anyway, I see a 25 pack for 65 bux, doesn't have a valve. Waiting on reviews. Also waiting on my 100 pack of 'surgical masks' that I ordered in early May, should be here by the 25th.

How is this not much worse in developing countries? I assume a lot of it is just a lack of testing, but wouldn't there be significant excess deaths in countries like Egypt, India, Indonesia, etc if the virus was spreading rampantly?

Yeah, I'm in CLE and the prices are out of control. I always buy a big pack of TP when I hit the grocer. Well, they aren't out of control but don't bother reading ads before you shop, prices are not the same in the stores for 'reasons'

Just as a heads-up, the monoprice KN95s are the ones made by DongGuan HuaGang Communication Technology, which have been recently removed from the FDA's Appendix A approved list, along with a huge swathe of other masks. Check what you're intending to buy against the FDA list if you can.Facebook Aunt posted:These kind seem to be in stock even with the genuine 3M. Check what you're intending to buy against the FDA list if you can. I've got a North by Honeywell respirator and it's easier to breathe in than the KN95 mask, although it's less comfortable to wear in terms of being a big piece of silicone strapped to your face, plus it makes it hard for others to understand what I'm saying. So, there's trade-offs. I wouldn't hesitate to get a respirator if you think you need one, though. I got mine mostly for sanding and painting.
