Bring the PINDA probe even closer than the thin part of the zip tie. If it's installed at a slight angle (as it often is, because the mount is plastic ) it sometimes has to be even closer than you'd think to register the bed properly. I think I usually end up with the probe about 0.5mm above the nozzle, which is initially kind of freaky, but it does work just fine.

I will say for some reason I had to recalibrate my prusa z offset yesterday. I suspect it settled a bit after use bc all the screws still felt good.

anybody have experience with Gcreate Gmax 2 w/ dual extrusion or the E3D Chimera print head? I've been trying to suss out some oozing problems and nothing is seeming obvious. I've messed with retraction in general, retraction on tool change, lowering the idle tool temperature, added coasting, all the usual things but nothing is seeming to really do anything of use.

An electrician can keep a bunch of printers from pulling more than 20A if used at the same time? I have a hard time eyeballing tiny distances, but I’ll get the electronic-component reading magnifier out and back it with some paper or something.

Does anybody have feedback on the nozzle tip shape for different outcomes on plastics? There are the purely conical ones like this: And the truncated conical ones like this: I will be using 0.4mm on an E3D Volcano clone, which tip will give a better surface finish for PLA & PETG? I am not concerned about any other filaments. My impression is the conical ones give better corner detail, while the truncated cones give better flat finish.

Cura's ironing setting uses the flat to move across the top of a print without extruding and can make some excellent top surfaces.

And if we're into the weeds far enough the specific nozzle tip geometry matters, I think we're beyond what anyone here is doing. A .1% change in filament volume is going to change the surface texture more than the nozzle geometry. I don't know how much of a difference there is between a flat/conical nozzle; I use E3Ds on everything but people seem perfectly capable of getting good prints from the other design. However, you should definitely use E3D nozzles because they are properly made. The bags of 10-for-8-bucks discount ones frequently have non-circular bores of improper sizes and that will definitely give you lovely print quality.

I'm not going to cheap out on nozzles -- the MicroSwiss and E3D are effectively the same price. There's like a $4 difference between them ($16 vs $20). I'm concerned about the nozzle shape on the two plastics I plan to use. And, it was my silicone mat heaters that did the breaker in. They're 600w per CR10, 1kw on the CR10S4, and I wasn't thinking and fired up 3 prints at once. The MakerGears will pull 330W all-in while heating, and the FunMat HT will pull about 1kw by itself when heating all of them. My basement came pre-wired with multiple 20A circuits (not sure why, previous owner definitely had something going on with a shitload of computers & ethernet drops), so I've tried to spread them all out. I can pull 5.3kw if all fire up at once. I can definitely see the overhead lights strobe with the bed heaters, and the breaker box makes an ominous buzzing noise. I also gave myself heatstroke once ala the strawberry bitcoin miner, by working in the room with every printer running at once.

If you can, please tell me what filament you're using so I can buy some. If you're exceeding 20A, the best bet is to have an electrician pull a new circuit.

OK, moving the PINDA worryingly close to the nozzle height helped a bunch—thanks, Sagebrush! I also apparently had a loose Y motor pulley, so I tightened that up. My benchy problem is now bed adhesion, and I think that might be because it’s so cold in that room; I think even colder than when I printed the first Prusa logo. I’ll try some higher bed (and hotend?) temps in the morning.

Best thing ever. Baking TPU makes lovely prints, not lovely. My oven will happily hold 170degF which is enough to drive off the water. And my TPU prints went from "OHMYGOD what did you do?" to three steps from forbidden candy. .... i'm happy.

Welp, shitcanned one old spool of filament because of random fat spots in it that weren't immediately obvious to the eye but which were enough to choke the Prusa Mini. Side note the sound the extruder makes when it's skipping steps is distressing. Sounds like the machine is crying. My other printers need maintenance of some form or other so I guess I'll keep feeding poo poo to the mini to weed out my old stock and/or print goofy stuff to decorate my office with.

well then I thought I had the bed adhesion figured out with a slightly bigger z offset and some PVA, and the first layer looked good, so I left it to print while I had dinner and did some chores came back to only the first layer being printed, and the next 2 hours of filament blobbed around the print head I followed the Prusa video’s advice for dealing with it, but it’s mixed into the wiring and print fan, and that part doesn’t seem to be melting enough for me to extract it not quite sure what to do at this point — set my searzall on low to soften it up more? take up soap sculpture? whatever it is, I’m doing it in the morning

The delicate parts are usually the wires to the thermistor and heater cartridge so just try not to break those off their assorted bits. I assume prusa has fairly heat resistant wires for them since they go right into the block and even my monoprice and ender 3 do.

Has anybody used those "hotend condoms" (as some folks call them) sold by E3D and other vendors for various hotends? I bought a set while buying filament and have one on my Mini right now and will post a trip report after some time has gone by, but I'm not sure that there is much "real" benefit for them except on a machine that is pushing the envelope on it's available power vs. what the hotend is trying to do, etc. Maybe it will help keep the hotend clean? It's the one that covers everything except the very, very tip of the nozzle.

It works wonderfully. Stray bits just fall off before they can turn into a monster blob. Silicone sock on the hot end is a godsend when printing with PETG imo since PETG is so sticky. It's benign otherwise. Never looked back.
