I liked BF2 a fair bit. Mostly when there were 64 players on, though.

WarpedNaba posted:I liked BF2 a fair bit. Mostly when there were 64 players on, though. The issue with 2142 was that everyone loved 2 way too much and didn't try the new game. Anyways, actual OSHA stuff to avoid making GBS threads this thread up with too much off topic game stuff: I work at Amazon and over holiday peak (back when we at Amazon believed we'd eventually have a break and wouldn't be working overtime all year long) I watched someone nearly drop a 12 foot pole onto an expensive belt that would have shut the warehouse down for 3 days to get/install a replacement. It really wasn't the guy's fault: it was the fault of someone who hosed up 4 years ago when this place was built. A manager was working on a label printing machine and the conveyor chute to the collection belt below was being annoying and having a jam problem so he grabbed a jam pole and placed it near his station. Like a responsible manager every time he placed it in a holder on the railing he was using the pole to reach over and poke below. Only issue was where the holder brackets were placed. Every other one of these chutes has the brackets placed midway up the railing. For whatever reason, whoever set up this set of brackets up them on the top of the railing and had been like that for years. Most people either didn't leave a pole there or put it on the floor at the base of the railing where no one would trip. But this guy kept putting it up on top. And then sure enough, eventually someone comes in, maneuvering a pallet and boink down goes the 12 foot long pole through the hole...and then lands perfectly on top of the walls of the conveyor belt below. A little bit one way and it would have landed in and torn apart a massive piece of equipment. A little bit the other way and it would have landed on top of the desks where the trailer yard people work. And that was and likely forever will be the fastest I've ever seen anything get fixed at my warehouse. Sr. Management spent five minutes gathering and having a rather understandable case of kittens, another five minutes getting our on-site repair contractors, who practically ran to get their screwdrivers to move the brackets down.

Alkydere posted:Literally how I landed the flying transport in the glory days of BF2142: taking full advantage of how in one of the first patches the devs realized no one could actually land the suckers without crashing and gave the thing wonky physics that made them resilient to physics damage. 2142 was the best battlefield. In some OSHA content, I'm happy to have a circular saw smarter than me. I was recently cutting the tops off of some 4x4s and my habits of running drills had me running the saw while going backwards in the cut. Something I know is supremely dumb, but forgot in the moment until my saw shut off via kickback prevention.

I'd love to see the video for that because it doesn't look like the lorry even touches the brakes. Just keep on trucking that horrible crunching sound must have been bad news for someone else.

It was the first game I'd played where some of the weapons and vehicles weren't available until you had unlocked them by grinding multiplayer and that was (and continues to be) just total horseshit

But they're designed to work on the road with a reasonable amount of lead time for the computer to analyze obstacles, not starting up from a dead stop 20 feet away. It also usually won't override the driver if they're actively accelerating or steering, you can absolutely run into something if you're trying.

Aww, the longer clip shows the RR crossing arm finally go down. If this is where I think it is, I use a different route to that terminal specifically to avoid the crossing. I think it happened near FedEx Ground's terminal in North Salt Lake City UT. The official route is in red, the route I take is in green, and the collision happened at the blue circle.
