luxury handset posted:i apologize if you took it differently - i only mean that the people who were going around calling their style "the modern style" in 1950 were arrogant. everyone thinks their innovative style is modern, dorks! now we are going to have to invent postpostmodern in three decades and it's all downhill The problem with styles is there literally can't be a term for one until enough time has passed to see the boundaries explored. And by that time it's too late to pick what the term actually is. Instead, it's determined by the first dingus to realize they were looking at something distinct while happening to have enough of an audience to make it stick, irrespective of whether they were deliberately trying to name anything.

Also looks like the kitchen is a complete afterthought. Bizarre all around.

It appears to have been used as a commercial building by something called The Water Foundation, which apparently consisted of a non-profit, a green construction consulting business and an advertising agency. From what I gather they also used to offer tours of the Eco Domes. Their website(s) are dead but I found this presentation on wind energy featuring the domes. http://archive.cleanenergyresourceteams.org/sites/default/files/publication_files/CERTs_presntations_Small_Wind.pdf I also found their CEO/head honcho guy on LinkedIn

luxury handset posted:it would have to be a holiday home, there's no indoor bathroom. gently caress using an outhouse in the winter Oh definitely. It was actually the norm in Australia till the 50s or so; and even in our climate it would have sucked. And not only an outhouse but one with a composting setup - those reek to high heaven.

Speaking from experience, disassemble it or haul it in through a window/balcony as appropriate. It's not convenient at all.

Tell me about people painting their fireplaces white. Who started that trend? Why? I added that to my list of deal breakers once I realized how much of a pain the rear end it would be to undo completely.

I had to take apart a box spring because neither the staircase nor windows would accommodate it. It was just as big of a poo poo show as you would imagine, it didn't work well and yeah.....that poo poo sucked. Almost as much as using rope to squeeze up the mattress enough to fit up the loving staircase.

I'm looking to buy a new couch and am hoping someone can give me a name on what style I should be looking for. I like this one from Article, but I'm hesitant to buy one online that I haven't been able to sit in, though their return policy is decent. Mostly I like the beefier legs, I don't like the really thin pin legs on many couches but I still want something that has a bit more room above the floor than a lot of the really blocky short legs I see. I'm OK spending up to 2-3k on something if I need to. Preferably there's a matching ottoman or it has a chaise.
