Oddly enough a grilled cheese seems like the sort of thing one could make very easily at home during quarantine. They are not necessarily the most onerous cooking task.

you would be very shocked to learn that there is a massive, massive subset of the population that cannot make a grilled cheese sandwich for themselves.

There are many factors as to why this is so, but simple tasks like boiling water, cutting a vegetable, or even pre-heating an oven are so far out of their wheelhouse that there are literally thousands of youtube videos available right now, today, that will walk you through such arduous tasks.

The cultivation of this helplessness is a major pillar of capitalism though, and the reason that grilled cheese "restaurants" can turn around and serve 65 cents worth of ingredients for 18 dollars, so, you know

So, the store that I work for is about to implement a 'mandatory' mask policy for customers. Except that anyone can refuse to wear a mask and we still have to let them in and shop.

What is the loving point.

Literally anyone would do a better job than Trump.

He is ACTIVELY trying to kill people.

When was the last time (ever) did you hear Trump give a drop of sympathy to anyone who has died? He has only, ONLY, talked about how bad things really aren't and how good of a job he's doing. Oh, and he's doing anything he can to hide the numbers. He only cares about how he looks. At the literal expense of lives.

People have pointed out that it may have just been sheer incompetence and they wanted to report 5 different categories and didn't realise that NUMBER GO UP so they kept redefining their categories as the numbers increased:

... but the categories aren't divided equally at all and were obviously chosen to fit the data, which is sketchy as hell. The 'bins' in the first graph are 0-13.3%, 13.3-23%, 23-35.8%, 35.8-63.5%, 63.5-100% and the bins in the second graph are 0-18.4%, 18.4-30.1%, 30.1-45.2%, 45.2-73%, 73-100%

Haaa I just saw a tweet about that:
https://twitter.com/paulkrugman/status/1284165907351244800

quote:

But the same week Kemp ordered the reopening, his administration began presenting data in a way that made the state appear healthier than it was, said Thomas Tsai, a professor at Harvard University’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

The technique involved backdating new cases to the time of first symptoms or taking a test, instead of reporting them as they were reported to the state, like Georgia had previously done -- and like most states do.

“It is deeply concerning,” Tsai said. “I cannot of course speak to the motivation.”

The effect -- as states were being told to predicate their reopenings on two weeks of declining case numbers -- was to artificially make Georgia’s trends look better. The state began adding new cases to past dates on its trend line, making current numbers both too low and incomplete, Tsai said.

“What’s deceptive is that they shave off the most recent two weeks,” he said. “If you look at the most recent two weeks, it’s always very low. It always looks artificially like a downward trend.”

Really really dodgy poo poo, obviously done to get around the "numbers have to be declining for two weeks" clause that would have otherwise stopped them from opening back up

At this point I just assume all governments are fudging their numbers at least a little to protect their image (and Number - praise be), and are hopelessly outmatched by the crisis. Maybe if we all pretend it doesn't exist a little longer, the problem will go away.

Belgium were pretty much the only country who tried to be absolutely pedantic with their numbers and included all the known covid deaths, the probable deaths and the likely deaths and their per capita death rate is the highest in the world

I read somewhere that if they'd used the same criteria as the rest of Europe their rate would be roughly cut in half

As of 6 PM last night we now have 2 mask orders at the city level and 2 at the county level. I am pretty sure that this 4th one is really going to be the charm!

You cannot enforce a mask order, or at least they don't want to. Those who wear the mask will and those who don't won't. Lockdowns coming back real soon I would think!

The governor here can't do a god drat thing. The entire state is beholden to the GOP legislature. They already banned him from closing anything down. All he's been doing is pleading for people to wear masks, don't go out, and maintain social distancing. He has absolutely no power. He is a classic Wisconsinite and has been respectful and hasn't gotten dirty or gone blaming the republicans or anything. He's just like "my hands are tied so I'm just going to do my best."

When Scott Walker lost, after he lost, he and the GOP passed laws limiting any future governor's power. I've never seen anything like this is my life before. I still have a hard time believing what they are doing.

I'm just tired. My roommate insists on inviting people to come inside our house despite the rules. Doesn't matter how many times I talk about the risk I pose to her (I work in health care), the risk she poses to me, why the rules need to apply to everyone. She just says she wants to "live her life," and if I was so worried about spreading things to my patients that I should live alone. Her friend is coming over in a few weeks, I think I may just have to live like a hobo in my car for a few days.
