Deca-Dence is alright. Hrrm, I'm still not sure if there's still something missing or if I'm just not that into it, despite it being undisputably quality. And aside from that and Fire Force, not watchin much of anything else new. Funnily enuff, the most consistent and fun ongoing series I've been following for awhile now has been pokemon. Oh, and Japan Sinks was great, don't sleep on it.

Misfit demon Lord has been surprisingly wholesome. I thought it was going to be a power fantasy of a long dead demon Lord coming back to show the decadent descendants what's what. And while it certainly has that it's been almost entirely focused on the demon lord making friends and patching up a sibling relationship.

Having seen the first two episodes of Monster Girl Doctor, I can't help but feel a bit of disappointment so far. The show feels like it is occupying an unsatisfying middle ground. It isn't quite lewd enough to be a good ecchi, but it also isn't serious or well produced enough to transcend being a monster girl fetish show. The lewd bits that it does have feel a bit silly, like the centaur girl moaning during her hoof shaving. I just imagine somebody moaning while clipping their fingernails now, as the situation seems similar. I wish the show would chose between ecchi and serious, rather than trying to straddle the line. this allusion meant posted:the man's name is 'anus voldemort' and there's zero effort to attempt to establish stakes or buy-in. the problem is the stuff it's parodying is so reliant on parodying itself and winking at the audience that the only way past is to take everything to the extreme and play it totally straight. hard to say if there's a payoff tho I actually read a couple chapters of the manga a long time ago and going back to them it seems a bit clearer that it leans closer to being a parody because the MC's inner voice is constantly frustrated with how everyone remembers things wrong after 2000 years. And as a historian with a fascination with ancient Rome that's a pretty good hook. Also I watched the first episode of Rent-a-Girlfriend and it left me in stitches. I hope there's a lot more of the grandmas.

strike witches asks you to accept a setting where the main girls don't wear pants, as opposed to if they wore swimsuits. the meta reasoning is fetishistic, but in-universe it's treated as the most normal thing in the world. it's a thirsty but not primarily horny show. compare to something like keijo or harukana receive which feature girls in swimsuits and are somewhat about butts, with endearing character writing at the forefront. they're still story-driven with relationships and personal struggles.
