i like all the parts of gl, but today what i might like best is post-ep8 up to the first half's end, the recovery from loss is really endearing. also after seeing the whole show+parallel works once and knowing lordgenome's deal it's really cool to see (the movies are a great rewatch) his tragedy being succeeded and overcome by a new generation

I also liked that they brought up the fact that most the of the crew were good soldiers in wartime but made poor leaders during peace.

I need to finish Gurren Lagann but I'm still disappointed that the movies weren't dubbed and never will be. It's a dumb reason to not watch them but it would have been so drat cool to have Yuri Lowenthal going extra batshit wild during the final fight and we were denied it because of Aniplex. Maybe I'll take a gander one day because I'm not opposed to watching subs but I'll still be frustrated about what could have been. I liked the movies, but what they did to save time in the second one really undercut a lot of the emotional buildup that was present in the back half regular series. They even lampshade it when the box opens. And the last fight is dragged out a little, but they did tie it together even better at the very end, followed by borrowing the drill clash animation from the pachinko game, lol.

Part 1 has the traditional Japanese style, 2 has the bubbly Nia one, 3 is sterile, and 4 is the traditional one again, iirc. I think people just call it two parts because the timeskip is an obvious one but the show shifts pretty heavily after Kamina’s death. NGE feels like the most obvious one to me since that was the previous big mecha show from Gainax, and a hugely important show to mecha going forward.

I watched Eva twice last year. First with subs and then with the Netflix dub. Best things about the dub was deffo Shinji's new VA. I also enjoyed Greg Chun playing Kaji because it better underscored how much of a scum-rear end character he is.

Definitely has a lot of Satoshi Mizukami's sensibilities as far as writing, humor, and themes. It could have possibly benefited from having a few more episodes for exploring the characters a bit more, especially towards the ending, allowing for a bit more of a naturalistic pacing, but the brevity of the show Is in of itself a benefit, giving the show a rather kinetic energy that makes it easy to binge. I'd definitely recommend it.

I'd never seen the movies until right after i saw promare in theatres (and I only watched the second since the first is actually just kind of a recap), and it's a really nice complimentary piece to the series imo. Very focused on accelerating to the last part of the series for obvious reasons though
